[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I read once that the east side of Zion National Park was geologically unique that much of the landscapes looked like it was made by a crazy pastry chef. This analogy was not far off. In some ways, this portion of Zion is more fascinating than the more frequented canyon region. As you drive in or out of the park on the Mt Carmel Highway your eyes can't help but feast on the colorful sandstone formations that rise and fall around you.

One of the more well known sights is the Checkerboard Mesa which can't be missed. Another interesting sight, probably more dear to photographers, is this lone piņon pine sitting atop this bed of sandstone. It's been photographed countless times, but I was compelled to give it a try myself.

I used a polarizing filter to enhance saturation and bring out the clouds in the sky. In PP adjusted levels to darken the foreground just a bit and then lightened the piņon itself as it was a bit dark.

Hope you like it!

Basic beautiful compostion back third of the shot lead to with the strong line in the picture.

In short it works.

I really like the composition of this image and how it pulls my eyes from the bottom towards the subject. All of the lines in rock also pull my eyes upward. The color and exposure is also very impressive. TFS
