Chasing the Light

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Of the five US National Parks in Utah Capitol Reef National Park is probably the least known and least visited. Before I began planning my 7 week photography road trip I had never even heard of this park. This is unfortunate because the park certainly merits a visit.
This shot was taken near the main entrance. An isolated storm system came through and I just happened to be there at the right time.
PP: Very little PP in this case. I increased saturation to the rainbow by about 5%. Nothing else. These colors are straight from the RAW file. Re-size and sharpening for TL. |

If I remember well I have once more mentioned how I love the light you achieve in your pics. It is quite phenomenal, and the fact that you keep your PP to a minimum goes to show how important light is in the first place. Nature did its part, you did yours flawlessly!

Very neat juxtaposition in soft light. It works the symmetry between the tree and rainbow.

I'm sure you used Capture to pump up the rainbow - good stuff
The natural saturation on dirt/rock with the morning light is very well presented and with enough green to break it up. Keep them coming.

Hey Mike,
I may have not commented/critiqued your postings from your recent trip but I look at them with regularity, and I must say I am very impressed. I thought about visiting those same National Parks that you trekked but decided instead to plan a SE Asian trip to attend a friend's wedding by spring of 2009.
Do you use the 'vivid mode' on your D300? As I like color photography, the vivid feature is most ideal for macro shots. It may not be suitable for landscape shots and for the Parks in Utah as it would intensely saturate the reddish clay/soil. Looks like an ND filter was used here which effectively tempered exposure from the sky/clouds and balanced the colors.
An attractive landscape photo, I can't nitpick. My compliments.
