Chimney Rock

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
One of the first things you notice while entering Capitol Reef National Park is the landscape's rich red "brick" color. I can understand why Capitol Reef is the least visited and most unknown of the 5 National Parks in Utah. Unlike the others it doesn't have that big icon that draws the masses. After hectic and crowded visits to Zion and Bryce, coming to Capitol Reef was very relaxing and peaceful.
Chimney rock could be considered one of the icons in this park. It's comprised of red siltstone, mudstone, and white sandstone (the top) and is fantastic site as the sun lowers in the west.
PP: Not much needed to be done here. Shot in D300 - Standard color. I adjusted exposure slightly in RAW. Re-size and sharpened for TL |

Nice landscape Mike - glorious evening colour and long shadows. The 'thirds' are all there.
Cheers
David
We did hit a lot of the same spots Mike!
It's great to see your take on these places.
You caught some great light here of course, the red is at it's golden best.
Good use of the foreground, and very lucky you had such an interesting sky.
For me, it was mostly the super clear blue as I drove through this area and didn't have much time to wait for sunset.
Anyway, you captured this vista well. Great job.

Nice composition and mid-tone colours. Good DoF. Too bad about the harsh shadows -- but that's what it is like.

Michael
This scene sure wouldn't work in vivid with the evening sun kicking everything up a notch. The "tree" does a good job providing relief from the brick color.
You're on a roll with a new image every day. You may, at that rate, get to Bishop Creek by January.
