The PPG Place downtown Pittsburgh, Pa.,
is a six building complex.
It is the home of both the Wintergarden and The Rink
and has a variety of retail shops and a vast food
court.
The gleaming glass and steel structures were developed
by John Burgee Architects with the internationally
renowned architect Philip Johnson from New York.
This complex, with its thicket of 231 spires was
designed to weave into the architecture of Pittsburgh
and recall its great buildings, such as the Cathedral
of Learning and the Allegheny County Courthouse.
PPG Place's neo Gothic forms are the perfect
architectural bridge between the historical structures
of the city and the newer geometrical high-rise towers.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on January 28,
1981, and the complex was dedicated on April 11, 1984.
The office space opened in August of 1983; just two and
a half years after the construction began. The retail
shops opened in November of 1984.
Nearly one million square feet of PPG Solarban 500
clear reflective glass was used, glazed in 19,750
pieces of glass, which provides a high degree of energy
efficiency.
HDR made with qtpfsgui.

Hallo,
mir gefaellt die Art und Weise, wie Sie den Turm (Wolkenkratzer) aufgenommen haben. Die Architektur selbst ist auch sehr interessant, und der Himmmel bringt sehr viel zur Stimmung bei.

Hi Thorsten,
I've read about the effects qtpfsgui sometimes makes to areas within the HDR photo. I think that this time it rendered the sky a bit strange. But I actually like the effect a lot. It makes the sky even more interesting. I like the dynamic range in the tower, but fee that the tree on the right is lacking some contrast. Your view upward is great and makes the tower look huge.
TFS,
Niek
Caught quite an atmosphere here, Thor! This looks like it should be a Batman set....
Cheers
Otto
The colours and details in the building look very gothic, but I don't think the hdr effect has been very sympathetic to the sky, which has ended up looking very blocky and indistinct, like something painted in a simple art package. I'm also not sure this is the best POV, as the verticals of the tower need to be adjusted to straighten them up and stop the lines of the building from looking like they converge.
Thanks for sharing
Mark
