[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During my 7 week photography road trip last summer this moment was probably the most awe inspiring of them all. This is sunrise at Dead Horse State Park. I was hoping for great light this particular morning and for moment thought I wasn't going to get it. I had already been thwarted at the Mesa Arch and thought the light was going to evade me again. When this light did appear I was so stunned I almost forgot to the take the picture!

PP: Using Capture NX in RAW I lightened the tree for better detail. Re-sized for TL and sharpened.

During our trip through Utah I tried to photograph the bends in the Colorado but did not get into Dead Horse State Park. I must say this is by far the best of your trip that you have posted so far. The FG is perfectly exposed. Really like the texture of the layers of rock and sky. Would like to see this one hanging on your wall.

Hi Mike

Excellent image, love the sunlit Canyons, you've also managed to coax out the shadows well too. I also never got this far when I visited Arizona/Utah, wish i had! Maybe next time......

Dean.

Hello,Mike,
Very impressive, I like the composition and the chosen POV.

Valerka:)

good PP to lighten the shady foreground details, indeed, it is surely necessary to make the shot great,
it looks like horseshoe bend located in Page, Arizona (if I'm wrong I can say i'm french and never have been near this canyon)
this is a classic

The narly tree makes the picture for me. The crisp sunlit BG is beautiful in colour. Nice composition that leads the eye from front right to back left. TFS. Karin

Hi Mike,

Amazing landscape, brilliant foreground detail and the light on the rocks is lovely.
The gnarled detail on the ancient tree is brilliant, how did you manage to carry enough storage for 7 weeks, you must have taken a huge amount of images.

Douglas

Nice work on the foreground Mike. Lovely colour and light on the rocks and the image well composed,
David

Hello Mike,

I was sent here by your post today.
Both shots have great merit but I do prefer this one.
I like the f/g detail which grabs the attention before you plunge over the edge into that wonderful river canyon.
The colours and the curves are definitely something I have never seen before and for that reason are amazing.
The light and shade highlight the eroded contours and also accentuate the depth.

I'm glad I didn't miss this. Well done!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Fantastic depth to this photo. The light is nice and the tree to to right adds to the composition. TFS

Wow, great shot Mike.
The tree in the foreground really add to the depth of the image.
Just Beautiful...
U Rick
