This is another angle at the lake at the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The colors you see here are spread throughout the area as the soils have been created by Volcanic ash deposits during the Miocene by the Clarno Volcanic region. Clarno is another seperate Unit, as well as the Sheep Rock Unit of the Monument. The headquarters is located at the Sheep Rock Unit where you can visit the new Thomas Condon Paleontology Museum where fossils from these areas are on display along with beautiful paintings on the walls above them showing what the landscape probably appeared like during the fossilized mammals and plant life's existence. A grand museum that is a must see, as are the three Units of this world reknowned Fossil Beds.

Hi Steve,
Nice representation of this colourful landscape, the vivid colours look nice next to each other, the contrast is great. ood positioning of the horizon, the rule of the thirds worked well here. Pleasant scene, nice one! TFS.
Best regards,
Kristof
