Dawn on the Flyway
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The moments near sunrise and sunset on the Mississippi Flyway are, by turns, tranquil and tumultuous. Walk along a shore such as this, where thousands upon thousands of Canada Geese, gulls, maybe even an American White Pelican or two are beginning a new day, and you may find quiet feeding one moment and multiple V-formations of fishing, flapping, flying, squawking water fowl. I'm showing just a tiny slice of the hubbub here, but it's a sight to behold. (Check my TN page, if you wish, for some other aerial shorts of the birds in formation from this same morning trek.)
Post-processing is minimal and all in that slick recent release of The Gimp (2.6.4) I've been working with it for about a week now, and I really love it. Simpler and yet more powerful and better organized. I did one pass of Light & Shadows sharpening, a crop, and scaling to fit TL requirements.
I cropped a bit so that the birds would be big enough to be noticeable but tried, in the main, to keep this as an establishing shot so you could see and feel the context. |

Hi Jim,
Very good post for the theme!
I like the soft light and the peaceful ambience of this scene!
However, IMO, the horizon is a bit too centered. I think you can improve your composition keepng the context and the mood. I propose you a worksop! Don't mind!
Bravo! Annie
