Feeling a bit experimental, trying to get out of my comfort zone. So I was playing around with some night shots I took at Lake Merritt in Oakland. This scene includes the county courthouse, as well as part of the wonderful path of lights that goes around the
lake.

This is an HDR, B/W. I used three exposures to render the distant sky glow as well as the lamp post lights.

In the end I was not happy with the foreground so I used a bit of the flood filter to adjust the foreground area to my liking. Also added a bit of additional glow around the lights.

WHOOOOOA!!!

This is awesome bro, the water looks like liquid metal. Aww man, this is just too cool. I would say your experiment was a success because this is just too cool.

Ive said it before and I will say it again, you are the KING of landscapes. You should get paid to do it, seriously.

Congrats, thanks for sharing,

Hi Vincent,
Fantastic HDR shot! You managed to expose the evening light beautifully, the whole scene is sharp and looks quite romantic. Great experiment, some day I hope to be able to do something like this. TFS.

Hi Vincent,

It works really well, super smooth detail and the foreground filter has an almost polished steel effect.

this is a very liquid image - and not only because you used the flood filter =)
it makes my eyes watery, like some impressionistic paintings...
very nice soft effect, especially the lights benefit from the glow.
c.

this is so cool, the amazing gleeming water with its sparkle leads the eye to the building annd these park lights, very nicely composed,
tfs,
scott

Oh MAN!! I missed this!! How did I do that??? You did a GREAT job with the flood tool here, in making this shot work! Normally, long exposures would eliminate those nice sharp swirls, but replacing them makes the whole shot amazing! Good job Vincent!!
