[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It's been awhile since I've uploaded a photo.

This one I took a few weeks ago when some friends and me hiked up a mountain to watch the sunset. Unfortunately it was cloudy and there wasn't much color, but I was able to take some fun pictures of my friends.

The girl in this picture was standing in a very cool gnarled old tree; the full shot captured more of that. However I felt compelled to crop it this way to draw attention to her face which is where this photo get its mood and beauty.

Post Processing... (Photoshop 7)

Auto Levels
Auto Contrast
Manually adjusted Saturation for all color levels
B&W/Monotone filter (Downloaded)
Median Filter radius of 1 pixel
Manually blurred the tree
Diffuse filter
Increased the contrast

**I have added a workshop based off of Richard's comments to the original photo. I believe it corrected what he saw and I think I just like it better anyway. Haha

Hi Aaron,
So, you're back from outer space, eh? No, school's just out. ;P

It's a good portrait with good composition--it better be since you cropped! ;P But, I think I'd agree with you. Tree and people together fight for attention when they're this close together...and to pick a friend over a tree is always a good move! There's something that doesn't quite appeal to me in this shot. It's not your friend, she's very pretty and I like the expression...but, I think it's something to do with the tones...maybe it's the contrast in your friend's face...it's quite flat...consider raising it if you can. Other than that, it looks good. Nice to see you back!
Take care!
Richard

Nice POV...something different. I would go for a tighter crop here...to get more intimate to your model. JMHO.

Nice shot.
Maybe some work to get rid of the murkyness needed.
