[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
An HDR shot of the tankers that go in and out of the Houston Ship Channel Daily. Our Ship Channel is the second largest port in the world. We have tankers, and cruise lines that come through every day! I processed this from a single RAW image, converting to TIFF three different ways, then merging in my HDR program. I added a vignetting. Hope you enjoy it!

Ciao Linda, again my today neighbour, beautiful composition with lovely ship, I like write and I go to smoke a sigarette, brava, ciao Silvio

Hi, Linda -
Very cool image - love the big "No Smoking" sign! Your POV lets the image convey a sense of the immensity of the vessel. The red hull looks really good against the less bright colors around it. Good work with the HDR - sometimes an HDR photo looks unnatural to me, but you've done it with subtlety and effectiveness here. Nice work.

Hi Linda,

This looks a very large vessel and the sea looks very calm. Great colours sharp details and great pov. Is tiff a better way to get a great HDR immage tfs.

Regards
Jon

Hi Linder,
Good POV for this big tanker- nice work on the HDR, the tones are strong, with good clarity. And of course... your horizon is perfectly straight (lol). TFS Julie

This ship is the best way to stop smoking !!!
Have a nice day

Hi Linda,
Very interesting HDR post-treatment. I am learning with this technic, and I can say that this is not so easy to do! No image that I worked satisfies me, until now, they appear too unnatural. So, I like much what I see, here
The contrast with the gray sky and the red boat gives more sense at the title! I like to think that life is more colorful without smoke!
Beautifully done! Annie

hi linda,
a message to be learnt by everyone.

i like your way of proceesing this. i must try it.
nice earthy tones from the hull and the sky. the vignette is not overdone.
hugs,

hi linda, havent heard from you much, i hope all is well,
the sharpness and exposure in this big girl is amazing, wonderful colors too,
i never knew this channel was so busy...interesting,
thanks,
scott

Hi Linda,
Cool shot, I was taking a similar HDR of a large ship like this from a wharf the other week. Yours is a much better colour, you were fortunate to get the gray sky for it to stand out against. The 'No Smoking' writing looks huge! I notice that you always convert your RAW files into TIFFs first, any reason for this? Nice job.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Linda,
thanks for the advice that you gave Scott, I have always converted to JPEGs when working from one RAW file - must give it a try.
The HDR works really well here, it give the ship a real boost against the gray sky - great PoV
cheers
Jack

Hi Linda,
Striking shot of this ship. Well positioned in the viewperfect details, f/16 works well here! The HDR isn't overdone here, so if you didn't tell I wouldn't have seen it. Anyway a great posting!
Hans

N.B. The horizon is 0.0005 degree tilted.

Hi Linda, I can't believe that Houston is the second largest port.. bigger than Norfolk, VA? Anyway, this is a striking (pardon the smoking pun) photo. I like the red against the grey of the sky and the blue of the water. I don't know why I find it amusing with the words, but I do... I also think it would look neat "desaturated" to give it an older look. :) Lisa

Very good HDR Linda! Usually I don't prefer HDR, but this one is very good.
I really like the very tiny details on the shorelines in the distance, specially to the right of the ship!
Excellent work

Cheers,
Anneke
