[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My husband fusses at me because I'd rather have an OLD piece of antique furniture, than a new shiney piece of furniture. But I used to build furniture, I had my own woodshop and so I know quality when I see it. They don't make houses like they used to either. Even when the wood is old, it has it's own charm and texture. I love the texture of old weathered wood.
I have even taken old wood and built furniture with it. I have several pieces of "antique replicates" in my house, one was built with 100 year old barn wood, 16ft x 16" planks of cedar that was given to me as a gift! What a superb gift!
Hope you enjoy!
Thanks!
Linda

Hi Linda

I like the textural contrasts, between the grained wood at left, & the glass & peeling paint at right. The angled, diagonal pov & composition, works well here. Tfs!

Hi Linda,

loved the contrast over here. good POV and a nice composition.
thanks for sharing.

sanjib

Hi Linda...nice shot...great tones and details. It takes real talent to see this shot before you take the picture.

:-) I love this Linda... makes me want to peak indoors as well!! Urban photography is HOT these days and I know one can take gorgeous pics in old abandoned places.

I really like the structures, details and the way we can just look in through the window....

Cheers,
Anneke

Hi Linda,
Nice ! Very good details and structure. The lighting is great on this. I love the 'leaves' inside the broken pane- giving this photo even more character. Good Job ! TFS Julie

Hi Linda,
did those leaves get in through that broken piece in the window? I really like how you have seperated this part from the whole house, one can feel the age of this old home.Great sharp details in all the textures,I like the broken window pane, the crack in the glass, holds my attention into this scene.

good details, colors and textures in this linda, yes old wood is much better for my other love-guitar playing! expecially acoustic guitars but electric it makes a difference too,
its funny the tools needed for my two hobbies (guitars and cameras are the opposite,) the older the guitar gets the better it is and the newer the SLR is the better it is!
take care, nice rustic post,
tfs,
scott

Hi Linda,

Thank goodness you are back with us, well spotted,It's good looking out for the smaller details all around us.The weathered wood has lovely texture.

Douglas

For a while now people have been taking perception-altering drugs like LSD to boost their appreciation of simple sensory things: light and shadow, texture, shape, patterns.
I think all they needed to do is become photographers. There is a particular ability some - you, as one - have, to see beauty in unexpected places, and then to present it and draw it out for otheres to appreciate.
I like the textures and colours of the wood here, the little rusty nail, the final flecks of paint on the window, the cracked glass. A nicely disciplined and controlled observation of beauty in sheer existence.

I bet you knew I'd love this one Linda!! HA! And I totally agree with your note. Great crop and beautiful old wood, textures and color. Fantastic detail. TFS

Hi Linda, What a very neat shot. Very creative and unique. One thing about having photography as a hobby is that many of us look at and notice the small things, or the usual things, that many take for granted. Yes, the simple nail is an great subject with the complimentary wood tones. It's cool that the window pane is cracked.... just adds more to the story we may never know. :) Lisa

Hello Linda,
and just think of all those picture frames you could have made with those 16' X 16" timbers. All you would have had to do is plane each one that would have taken you a lifetime to narrow them down.
Now seriously, this scene you have captured with the women's shoes in the window is an excellent composition within itself. Old shoes, old wood, rusty nails, and broken green glass, everything within the scene belongs as it appears the people that once lived here wanted everyone, or at least someone, to know that they were there at one time.
You have a great eye and perspective for photo journalism!
Have you attended classes in either art or photography?
Excellent image Linda...
Steve

Hi Linda,
This really is something special, clever idea to take a photo - your crop works very effectively. Love the look of the weathered wood, and particularly the rusty nail next to the broken glass. It all looks nice and clear.

TFS,
Scott.

I'm the opposite to you Linder, I prefer the new. Give me a new place to live in any day - just as well my husband is a builder!!!
You've picked a good building though to show here. Well captured, it's all rough and ready, very natural. Even the broken glass shows up well.
Give me a match and I'll set it alight :)
Cheers Mate
Janice

Hi Linda...
Just how I feel lately about posting photos! But I've seen the light and I'm going on less distracted....
anyway...
Your photo...

I really like the look of the old wood and the focus on the old rusted nail... the broken window just adds to the abandonment (is that a word.. sort of like stupidly)
