[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
An HDR image of a scene at the local Frozen Custard Shoppe on Conneaut Lake, PA. This was taken at night, as the light from the shoppe illuminated those who were enjoying the night.
My thinking on the comp: The focus is the BOY, who is faced outward (a photography NO-NO ** I love busting the rules for experimentation purposes). I wanted to show that he was in his own world, eating his custard with complete joy. Had he been facing IN he would have been a part of the group. As you can see, everyone is doing their own thing.
I did an HDR, added a vignetting and a bloom to bring light to the boy. Feel free to let me know how you feel about this photo. No doubt some will not like it. No doubt some will NOT read these notes! HAHA!
I love the motion blur in this also, the kid is oblivious, as I was when I first tasted Hank's Frozen Custard!
B-)

Well Linda thats the talent i call :)

U've done it perfectly very well n that makes this one stands out :)
The additional treatment of very nice HDR makes tonal range n color temperature very beautiful :)
May be u'd have given a little very little space at the bottom of the frame (just my personal opinion)

Very nice job! :)

There are a lot of things that I love :
- the mood
- the great expression of the boy
- your exquisite PP
- the motion blur
- that strange yellow lighting
but there are some things that I don't like very much:
- the blue bollard in the FG
- the noise/pixelation of some areas (skin of the blond guy, especially)
- the cut leg of the lady
- the fact that you keep ignoring me for ages (don't understand the reason of this radical change)

sincerely yours,
v

Hi Linda,

I really like this image, the fact that the little boy is static and sharp when all else around is movement, the glow and the brighter colours really stand out well and the shadow noise just adds to the mood. I also love the sound of frozen custard.

Douglas

Nice candid shot.

Hi Linda,
I like the difference in movement and frozen people. It gives a wonderful idea of how concentrated these people were eating their 'frozen' snack. It looks like the boy was already busy with the next ride he wanted to take. I think that the treatment including the noise suits the mood in the photo. A small pitty about the left foot of the lady in the front, but that is less important.

Niek

Hello Linda,
If it were not for the note of the author, I would have thought, "what is this, a blurred picture???" The explanation about the boy and the composition itself is quite illustrative of the importance of writing notes.
Now that I understand, I find the picture very attractive.
TFS and thanks for the lesson.
Denis

hi linda.
i would never of thought of trying an hdr with people unless they were perfectly still.
i'm gonna have to try this.
a wonderful effect. the liitle boy seems transfixed on something in the distance while the world revolves around him.
nice one.
hugs.
Brian

This is for me really artistic work.
I love some movement here as well as very good light.
Doing this way with focus on this boy made this picture some special image - worth it to be presented at National Gallery.
For me is perfect.
Hugs - Tom:)

Linda,my English is too poor to express my opinion! It's very impressive work, ARTWORK! I love this photo!
Best regards, Ewa :)

Hi Linda,

what I liked in this photo, the boy is static and is not moving anywhere like the others are, over here. nice pp work. also when you break rules, that doesn't mean that you can achieve a very good result. ofcourse you can i.e. what this photo has done over here.

Tfs,
sanjib.

Great title Linda for this composition ,great image, your PP work, certainly makes him stand alone, it's well thought out & executed,.I may have slighly blurred the man in the checked shirt, as he competes to much with the small boy, your main subject,IMHO.

Linda, You "nailed" this one for effect. The boy really looks like he doesn't belong, yet he is doing his own thing. It would have been neat if his little friend had not been in the photo as he would have been the only child in the shot. Nonetheless, it's an awesome photo. As you know, I like to break rules tool... that's what makes a photograph "pop" in my opinion. I like the color it, but it would also be interesting to desaturate the photo and just have him in color. :) Just an idea. :) Lisa

Hi Linda,

I like this photo. It tells accurrately the story you described. I like the way you postprocessed it, achieving dersired results. I have read Vlad's note and I think he is right speaking of pixelation on skin of he blonde guy. This was the first thing I have noticed and I must say it disturbes. It makes impression that this particular person was added in postprocessing which creates the feeling the photo could be fake. As of the bollard: for me it helps. Placed in fg it makes a natural separator of that world (within the frame) from my world (apart of the world of the boy of course!) looking like casual unwanted element. Like the photo would be a discrete observation, or the reportage.

Beautiful idea, beautiful execution! tfs

Marek

P.s. I am one of the few who have read the note........ ;-P

This is a neat shot Linda, I I like it so very much. I don't know if the boy is the focal point, but I surely know I like this composition. The mixure of sharp, well focus people, and the few blur mouvement is really awsome. I also want to underline, the lightimg quality in the different area of this photo. Great post-process, I really don't mind the noise or grainy presence one bit, this shot is not about "grain" but about "content".....I'm a true fan of your photography. They have so much "personnality", yours probably....))) Have a good day.
