A rarity, that these guys sit for a spell. But I caught one sitting on a wire fence at my sister's house. I walked up pretty close to him. Same for me, after the 75 mile ride this weekend, I am sticking to water this week, in preparation for the 165 mile this next weekend. 100 miles on Saturday, 65 on Sunday. They want me rested for the event, even itching to get back on the bike. So I will work on upper body, swimming this week, dragging the old legs behind me! I've been training for a while for this. I wonder how long it is before baby hummingbirds can fly?
B-)

Hi, Linda -
This is a rare view of a bird which is normally in constant motion. Very sharp and close details of the bird. The pattern of the fence wires really makes this shot special. Wonderful warm colors and perfectly blurred background. Best of luck to you in your upcoming race.

Hi Linder,
First congrats on your 75 miles ! We drove 500, does that count :-). This is a great capture, excellent lighting with really nice features on the h-bird. Good natural colors. TFS Julie

Hi Linda

You seem to have more luck than me, with wildlife. These things are lightning fast. I tried & failed to photograph a hummingbird in Thailand. Good dof & sharpness. Tfs!

Oh my gosh....
That's wonderful! To catch one sitting still is amazing and you got mad detail. Wonderful light and color, perfect DOF, a great catchlight in the eye. I love the red flowers below it and the graphics of the wire fence. I LOVE shots of birds and this one is awesome. Lovely shot! Thanks, Linda, and good luck with your ride!

Hi Linda,
I admire your energy, let me say that I should be a true wreck after a such long ride! ;)
This photo is fantastic and rare, indeed!
What a fabulous clarity and definition of colors!
I am amazed by the rendering of luminous green on the hummingbird and the natural tones on the fence.
The DOF is perfect!
Searching on google about your question, I found this on a french site:
"The eggs, one or two, of the size of a pea, are incubated during two to two weeks and half. The nestlings leave the nest at the three weeks age(litteral translation).
Bravo my friend!
Annie

Hi Linda,
Wow, what a beauty you have captured here!
The sharpness and focusing is amazing...wow!
The colors are simply perfect and very natural with great control on DOF. The blurry BG even adds another points to this commendable composition. A great work, I must say!

thanks and best,
Paras

PS: Sorry, out of today's point-budget :( but there is always next time

Nice awareness to see this and then capture it for us to see.
Noting your lens used makes this more interesting as you had to be fairly close at the time. excellent detail in the hunmmer and colors. The red flower was a real bonus as offsets the brown and greens.
(not fair I see you had a wirefence to help postion everything ..lol)

Hi BIG BAD DOG WOOF,
Wow you were lucky to capture this wonderful and colourful little friend. Excellent sharpness perfect focus on the bird. Regarding the composition, I would have cropped this picture in a portrait way, The left and right side don't add anything to the picture in my opinion. Anyway a fine posting Linda!
Hans

N.B.When do you change your name back to Linda again?

i would sell my soul to get an image like this.

definitely one of your best.
