Great Stone Face
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is one of a series of ornamental stone faces which are mounted above the doorways of one of the government buildings in Washington, D.C. (probably the Department of Commerce Building, but I'm not positive).
It's been a long time since I processed this one, so I'm a bit hazy on the details, but here goes. I cropped it a little to get closer to the face, then straightened it some. The stone seemed a little flat, so I played with some of Photoshop's filters to roughen it. I'm pretty certain I used the Posterize Edges filter (very light application), and followed that with a soft Grain Texture. Some areas in the center of the face (from the eyebrows downward) showed hints of a beige or bronze color, so I "touched them up" a little with a light airbrush, emphasizing the brown some.
I then adjusted the levels, and sharpened and resized it before uploading. A copy of the original (uncropped), before filters were applied, is posted as a workshop for comparison. |

Hi Michael,
Nice work. The pp you did really enhances the lines of the carving. And, it adds more texture to the stone. The enhancement of the shadows also make this thing look more menacing that before; I'm talking demonically possessed head, here! ;) Good work!
