I've been finding it really difficult to post anything lately. I've been swamped at work, and it doesn't look like it's going to ease up for me anytime soon, so I figured I needed to make some time anyway. I have been taking pictures, but just haven't had much time to do anything with them.
This is an entry in the August/September Scavenger Hunt, in the category "Refreshing". I took this on a visit to my sister-in-law's a couple of weekends ago. They live in Canyon Lake, which is a town south of Austin, Texas. We all drove to the nearby town of Groene (pronounced like the color "green") for lunch, and walked down to the banks of the nearby Guadalupe River (pronounced like the word "river" -- sorry, I couldn't resist). The river was crowded with people floating lazily down the river in innertubes, sipping on a refreshing cold drink. Nothing better on a hot day.
I did very little to the image itself. First I cropped it down to a border around the tubers (hmm, if a person who sits on a couch endlessly is called a couch potato, why is a person who floats endlessly down a river in a tire tube called a river tuber instead of a river potato?). After cropping, I dropped the cropped version on top of a duplicate of the original image, and created a third, white layer. The white layer went on the bottom, the full layer in the middle, and the cropped layer on top. Using ruler guides, I marked off the bands around the outside edge, and (working on the middle layer) deleted it wherever I wanted the white to show through. Finally, I flattened the image, adjusted the levels, sharpened it, and reduced the dimensions before uploading it. |
