Downtown Manhattan. I'm not sure what this building's purpose is. Some people said it was a prison at one time others say its just a federal building that holds documents. Either way there are NO windows. Just those shafts there. It's a large oppressive sight.

From George Orwells novel 1984:

"Four buildings towered vast and white above the grimy landscape. They were startingly different from any other objects in sight. They were enormous pyramidical structures of glittering white concrete, soaring up, terrace after terrace, 300 metres into the air. So completely did they dwarf the surrounding architecture that from the roof of Victory Mansions you could see all four of them simultaneously... The Ministry of Truth, Winston's place of work, contained, it was said, three thousand rooms above ground level, and corresponding ramifications below."

awesome! looks like the head quarters for an evil secret society! Great POV and good choice for black and white. I like the vignetting on the bottom too! Great job. JP

Yeah, I guess every town has its own Batsille-looking building, authoritative and gray. This one is no exception. You captured its grandeur really nice and the gray works good here.

ComplimentS!

Nice shot, I like the Orwellian title too. The tiling gives it extra texture & the subtle shadows enhance the perspective. If this was in Phoenix, or El Paso I would've guessed it was one of those new cooling towers. For all I know, some one really is rewriting history in there LOL. Well done.

Hi Daniel,
Cool shot. Creepy windowless building. Nicely portrayed in b&w. Well done.

Hi Daniel,
It had been years since I've read that book, but the title of this pic broguht it back. It does have a formidable look to it. The steep angle helps too. Great shot
