Tonight is a first for me, my first brugmansia bloom: 'Halo Peach'. Also called angel's trumpets, brugs bloom at night and are very fragrant. They're in the same plant family as tobacco, tomatoes and petunias - and close relatives of jimsonweed (datura). They're native to South America, but have a devoted following and have been widely hybridized.

Shot outside at ISO 100 experimenting with an outdoor halogen spotlight for illumination, plus flash (using rear sync). I had to experiment with various flash strengths and exposure modes, and finally got this one pretty evenly exposed.

An experimental shot of this bloom taken several hours earlier is posted here.

Cropped, sharpened and added border in Irfanview.

This is a perfect flower shot, Kimberley. Your DoF is excellent, the lighting of the petals is perfect. Your isolation of the flower through use of the lighting - better said, by keeping the background objects in the dark - is exemplary. TFS, TFS², GTF.

très jolie composition cette fleur...les couleurs sont très belles, on dirait qu'elle se termine en or sur le bout des pétales...le presentation met bie en valeur tout se beau travail...amicalement BI

Love the composition & lighting on this.
The subdued tones in the shadows give it a mystic feel and support the shot without drawing the eyes away from the main subject.
This is about as good as it gets!
Very Well Done!!

Excellent composition with great colortones, like the extra of the drop on the flower, also very good framing .. love it !!

Wonderful details, the compo is also very good. I love this peach colour, so mild, and with the greens and blacks, really stands out with its beauty. Great how it comes out from the darkness, the shape of the flower also forms a kind of a small borning monster :)
