[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Was supposed to fly home to Delaware from Minnesota today, but Philadelphia was fogged in with temperatures at 4C. The Philly airport shut down, everything greyed out, and all flights cancelled until tomorrow. As an antidote to all that grey and gloom, I offer this bright and cheerful photo of a fire hydrant across the street from where I'm staying, standing in the snow like a brave little soldier.

Original photo had problems, the red hydrant blended into the red wall, the color saturation made the snow pale yellow, so I looked to see if I had one that would correct both problems and found one with no wall behind, just rabbit tracks, and the snow is now white. Please take a look at both and tell me which one you like better.

Nicely done Lois. Simple and crisp.

Joe

I see what you mean Lois. The original is nice but very red. I like this one better as it goes with the title and has a great colour contrast against the snow. Nice Shot

Nice impact. I like those little soldiers, IMHO a good quality of photography.

although i still like the original post...this one is less confusing to the eye...very nice composition with the tracks all leading to the hydrant...the contrast between the red and white is also great...peace***

In my opinion, final analysis, I prefer this one.
Good lighting and DOF, composition. Snow not too blue. A winter atmosphere. Congratulations, and Happy New Year.

Beautiful & bright light in this picture with the red hydrant sparkling over the white snow. Very nicely composed with great sharpness with a V created by the rabbit trail and the shadow of the hydrant. Well done!

I like the contrast of red and white and where you placed your object in the frame. Well done.

Nice shot Lois! The picture is sharp and clear! The contrast with snow is perfect!
Good shot!

No need to look at the other one THIS IS THE BUSINESS!!!
It's good to see that you put your undoubted intelligence to work and took the right action, as this is SO much better - you even got a comment/praise from 'iso' so what more can I add?!
Final examination - pass with honours. 99%. i point deducted for the over-flashy frame!!

I saw the two photographs and this one is clearly better. Bravo for work, with reading your proceedings and the comments, I learned much myself. I like the composition. Snow is so realistic that one could take it in his hands. Annie

This one is IMO a lot better than the other. You did a great job on the snow and as you say the red really contrasts well with it. It is also a funny sight to see a fire hydrant ready to spout water in the midst of so much frozen water.

Hello Lois!
Great photo! The contrast between the fire hydrant and the snow is fantastic! It's a powerfull photo!
Well done! Congratulations!

IMO, this one's better. There's a nice contrast of that well saturated red against the white of the snow. The composition is good too. Well done, Lois :)

Simple and efficient.
The simplest photos are often the most beautiful.
This very graphic photo shows your talent.

Thank's to share.

Great picture and nice title.
Fire hydrant is sharp. Not crazy about the frame colours.

Good work.

super light and crisp, well composed image, M, (*_*)

excellent composition Lois :)
i like the 2 color look here, good sharpness

Right choice Lois!

This one is definitely better. Better contrast and visibility. Trhe rabbit tracks are adding a nice mood to this sharp picture. Well seen and framed.

Lois, excellent! Simple is often best. I love your composition of this seemingly simple subject. Love the sharpness, and the red of the hydrant! Your interpretation makes this a remarkable image!

Great shot for the theme. I like how the snow is so white, and the paw tracks add a lot of interest. Well done. I like this version the best.

This one is definitively excellent!

Superb composition. I love the contrast between the 'red' fire hydrant and the white snow. The track on the snow and the shadow form a lovely little triangle. Very good work. TFS

Hot and cold! I don't think you could improve on this, Lois! It's wonderful, purely and simply.

Gayle :)

Poor little soldier but great photo! I love colors – combination red and white works!

Hello Lois,

Great composition, I loved the theme
this red one in this white one is fantastic

Lois,
Terrible! What I like : strength in simplicity!
Minimalist compo but stunning efficiency.
That red thing vaguely reminds me another post... : )
Henri

To the "Simple and crisp" of the first comment, I would like to add: Bold and original. Well composed, as usual.

Overrated.

I like your cold shot Lois! I'm kinda fond of hydrants, and this is a good shot with excellent colour contrast, showing winter's reality! Tfs, Jay

PS Themed < Mon pays, c'est l'hiver! >

Good shot! very sharp, bright colors and framing, nothing I can add! =)

All you need on this photograph to complete it is some dog tracks and yellow snow! :
