Rain showers skirt the coast as the Sun rises over the Gulf of Mexico. Notice the Sargassum washing in on the rocks. Some years it is so bad that it will be 3 feet deep on the beach and other years, not so bad. Every morning tractors rake the beaches before the tourists awaken. The Gulf Weed is full of Sea Lice, little Crabs, tiny Shrimp and an occassional Starfish so the Sea Gulls have a feast. Raking the Sargassum is another major cause of erosion of Galveston beaches. If allowed to stay, it would collect sand and build the beach to a higher level, promote the formation of sand dunes and advance the vegetation line. But it is deemed better to rake the beaches for the sake of tourism and spend millions of taxpayer dollars every few years to replenish the lost sand...

Nice form light and basic shot. Elegant nice slice of life picture!
gorgeous....you just keep sending it our way! HAHAHA!....it is POURING here...just non-stop! I love Galveston! I think Shelby and I may take a trip EARLY morning, fourth of July, maybe to the Strand...with our cameras....that's is, if we can swim there! Now, I have seen this seaweed junk 4 feet high at Bolivar and full of crabs, eel, shrimp, fish, starfish!..and then after a while...it STINKS!! HAHAHA!
B-)

Isn't that nuts? It makes me think of developers who bulldoze down every grand old tree for a housing development, then plant fast-growing, weak silver maples by each new house. Rant aside, I love this shot. The different textures in the clouds are interesting. The darkness makes it difficult for me to see the sargassum weed, but that might be my monitor.
