[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Against the backdrop of snow and a half-paved road, this cyclamen simply begged to be captured, especially as the sun broke through briefly once again.
Today's forecast: Light snow, a high of -7 degrees C

Tech: Captured in RAW, with shallow dof to put the window behind it out of focus; adjusted colour saturation, exposure and contrast in raw; converted to jog; cloned out a distracting line across the bottom of the image; resized, blurred the snowy background and then sharpened the flower alone; added frame and signature

Thanks for looking and for your critiques, workshops and suggestions

Hi Slike,
A lovely clean presentation of this wonderful colored and shaped flower. The OOF snow gives it a beautiful minimalistic view and allows the flower to have the full attention. I hope you don't mind that I made a WS of your photo. Reading that the BG was made out of snow made me feel that the highlights could be adjusted.
TFS,
Niek

hi Silke

Very well presented abstract view of the flower, good focus sharpness and clarity with superb bokeh effect, although I agree with the WS because of your title about the light, so a bit of brightness, levels and curves will be good. It will be really wonderful to see some natural light falling directly on the petals!...to match your title perfectly then.

Great shot.

How pretty the cyclamen shows up against the snowy BG. I do love the colours of the flower.
Good focus and it is interesting to see the lighting coming from outside through the petals.
Nicely presented Silke

Hi Silke

Nice backlighting on the translucent, white petals, with superb use of a shallow dof, & subtle, muted colours. Tfs!

Elegant is the word that came to mind when I saw this. The composition is fabulous, the sharp soft petals--seems oxymoronic I know--against the blurred background just jump off the page.
I'm especially attracted to the light glow on the top edges of the petals, gives it sort of a dreamy look.
Nice and warm for a middle of winter shot.
TFS,
Wilt

Hello Silke,

This has the classic 'Silke' touch.
Lovely capturing of this single flower with sharp, grained texture and no oe.
Your framing fits the subject perfectly.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Silke, Your use of an off-set frame enhances this nicely. Good shallow DOF and crop. Another marvel of nature. TFS. Murray.

A so nice subject, it's well done, it's artistic. The frams as your precedent is a plus.

Iso.

Simple, but most beautiful macro, with perfectly mastered exposure, in a classy presentation!

Hello Silke
Very delicate photograph in light and colour, and in the elegant curve going from focus to unfocus. Delicate and beautiful. TFS, mb.

Hi Silke,
Excellent close up, perfect handling of light. The bright background doesn't disturb the white of the cyclame (my mother's favorite flower). Great posting my dear Silke!
Hans

Hello Silke,
Yes, you do remember me from TE, where I still reside. I thought you had G-O-N-E. But here you are on TL, where it seems you have been for ages. Good to see you and hear from you again. I hope you are fit and well again, following whatever prevented you from walking.
I like the photo of the cyclamen, but then I also like the cyclamen very much. Most people don't know how to look after them, thinking they are a normal house plant, and usually end up throwing them out.
The long lens made a nice blurry background for the very sharp petals. I like the gentle light coming through, which has prevented any over-exposure of the white parts. Probably leaving you a bit of room to boost the white a little if you wanted to. Lovely colours, aren't they!
It's an elegant picture with a certain minimalist beauty.
Regards,
Andrew
