I went for a bushwalk the other weekend and while waiting for my colleagues to sign the register I had a closer look at the tree. It had many of these bugs, presumable feeding on the sap of the young tree. Attending all these insects were some ants, which I presume were feeding on the honeydue produced by the bug as they didn't seem to be attacking them at all.
