[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is Tharwa Bridge, ye olde bridge for the scavenger hunt.
The bridge was opened on the 27th Mar 1895. Up until then the options included low level crossing here or down river or a punt. Frequent flooding, the soft bottom of the river, and overcrowding on the punt led to many drownings. After many years of lobbying the bridge was constructed.
The bridge is one of the oldest examples of Allan Truss design in Australia. Originally the pilons were wood. More recently attempts at maintaining the bridge led to the wooden decking being replaced, extra reinforcement added (this can be seen inside the single lane), and eventual closure earlier this year due to structural flaws caused by its age. I understand a new bridge is being planned.

I chose sepia tone in part because it adds a feeling of age. But mostly because of the smoke laden sky which has washed out the background. The sepia seems to make it look, for me anyway, like an expected part of the image as though its faded a bit. There is a major bushfire in Victoria, a couple of hundred kilometres away and the sky is filled with a horrible grey smoke haze. Most of my colour photos of the bridge look rather bland.

I just likes old things, from monuments to bridges and to cars and your picture was interesting from this aspect.

Interesting point of view, showing both parts of the bridge.
