Larus novaehollandiae - also known as the Silver Gull, is the most common species of seagull found throughout Australia in vast numbers. They are known as the "baby boomers" of the bird world as their populations have dramatically increased since World War II. It is because of our human lifestyle (which usually endangers animals) that they thrive. They are opportunistic feeders and a common sight at rubbish dumps and generally eat any human food or fishing waste. They are now considered pests because they threaten the populations of other bird species by taking away their nesting sites, even taking away unattended chicks.
This picture was taken at Sydney Harbour where the Royal Botanic Gardens meets Sydney Opera House. They are a common sight and didn't seem to be bothered by me taking their picture. Thanks for viewing.

dear Roxanne and Paul,
lined three different figures of silver gulls are very interesting(both contrast and combination).
one is looking at distant sea, two(on one leg) is mending its wing, and three(crossed legs) is walking to seek something on the ground...quite like human life styles.
these three are well composed against the sea and the light,
and colors are natural and shining.
it is refined and beautiful image.
thank you,
Akihisa
Hello Paul and Roxy!
Excellent detail and clarity in this shot and beautiful three "amigos"!
Beautiful colours and good point of view!
Best regards!
Lili
As Akihisa noted in her comment, we're looking at three different models here ! You are getting the hang of this new camera Roxanne really good , i am impressed by the clarity you have achieved in this image, they may be only simple seaguls (a common subject and thanks for the update info about them ) but the sharpness, DOF and precision in the plumage are outstanding ! The only niggle imo is the dark part at the very top , leave only the water and the reflective haloes and it's perfect !
My compliments, i like this,
Carol
