I took this shot some time ago from one of Sydney’s popular ferries. I post it to commemorate the death of the architect of the Sydney Opera House, Joern Utzon who died, aged 90, in November 2008. His son and daughter came to Sydney from Denmark (hello all Danish members)this week to commemorate the life of their father. One of the ironies of the remarkable story behind the design and building of this landmark is that Utzon never saw the building completed. He left Sydney in 1966 seven years before it was finished and never returned despite numerous invitations.
The very much older building has an equally interesting history . It is Fort Denison, known to locals as Pinchgut. In 1796 a gibbet was built there to hang criminals then in the 1840’s a fort was erected to guard Sydney Harbour from invasion. These days it is a museum, tourist attraction and cafe. It is also a popular venue for weddings – there’s a reasonably sized grass area on the other side of the fort.

Nice picture, I like the contrast of old and new. Was this taken from a boat in the harbour? It is nice and sharp with good colours and nice framing. Thanks for posting.

Best wishes

Bri

Hi Terry, there was a feature on our news about Joern Utzon, and interesting character and quite a story, his son and daughter were in Sydney to commemorate his death.
A nice view of Sydney with three different styles of architechture from different eras.

Well composed picture with different kinds of
architecture, Terry. Great light and colors. A
sharp image nicely presented. Congratulations.

Abraços,
Bruno

Hi Terry, Very fine composition from a very unique POV showing two icon on the harbour. The clarity and textures of the fort as well as the opera house roof-tiles is very good indeed. The presence of the tug between also adds a lot to this image. TFS. Murray.
