The Rainbow Lorikeet, Trichoglossus haematodus is a species of Australasian parrot found in Australia, eastern Indonesia (Maluku and Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. In Australia, it is common along the eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia and northwest Tasmania. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. Several taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the Rainbow Lorikeet are increasingly treated as separate species.
Rainbow Lorikeets have been introduced to Perth, Western Australia,Auckland, New Zealand and Hong Kong.

an inteersting species of parrot, bright variation of colours. well captured, nice contrast, i feel to adjust levels.

Hi Murray,
A cheerful picture of this colourful lorikeet. The DOF with the blurred background creates a good focus on the bird. Fine colours, but I think increasing the contrast a bit might improve this image even a bit more. Anyway a fine posting Murray!

Yeah there's a family of these living in Purewa Cemetery, near where I live. They are appealing birds but I'd heard they are also predators and can threaten native birds in NZ.

This one looks pretty harmless though, and good on you for getting such a close, tight shot - very impressive. This is the new lens, huh? It delivered well especially considering the maximum ISO and the minimum-recommended shutter speed for your focal length.

a great looking bird Murray ,in my opinion it couldbe een a bit more dar to get the max coloreffect.
