[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have attempted the partial saturation several times before after seeing some of the fine examples on the site and all to no avail. One morning this week, at some unearthly hour, everything fell into place.
Thanks once again to Helen for organising this weekly venture and making us think.

A coloured version can be found in the workshop

Very nice David. I like your POV and how we look up over the coloured boat to the desaturated water to the houses on the hillside.
Well done on the flags too.
Thank you for your notes and instructions too.
Well done
Janice

Hello David,

Lovely shot and perfect pp work.
After looking at you w/s I absolutely agree with you for choosing to keep this boat coloured.
It is a great way to attention to a subject, someting I didn't relise before.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for your kind words on 'Noisy Sentinel'.

Morning David

Excellent! Well worth the work here my friend. A nicely detailed original shot with good contrast that suited the greyscale well. Good idea to keep the boat as the colour subject and I like the matching colour chosen for text.

TFS kind regards Helen

Excellent work David.

Pleasing tranquil setting, awesome contribution to the theme.

Well done!

Martyn

I like the sense of depth in this image. The ducks bring life and dynamics. Good choice of the yellow tones and leaving the colourful flags

Hello David,
Usual I'm not a fan of «parcial desaturations» but in this case I have to confess that I was not completely right, and to congratulate you for the excelent work you've done.
It's very harminic, very beautiful, and works very well with a very special mood. Congrats my friend, mb

Hello David
Nice work indeed that focuses attention on boat!
The spirit of an harbour remains very evident.
Two speeding ducks appear as a gift to complete the beautiful scenery.
(I would have try to tint in beige the longer reflexions by that of the pole!)
Have a g'day.
Robert

Hi David,
beautiful work for the friday theme.Congratulations.TFS.Necla.

Nicely managed! I like the effect of the boat in colour ... even so centrally placed within the shot, it seems to work well. If it was me maybe I would have aimed a little higher, losing some space at the bottom for breathing-room at top ... but it's a minor. This is, as always, a well executed shot.

Hi David,
Silly me marked the Note as useful a few days ago but my critique did not register appropriately. I like what you intended to saturate and desaturate. Very subtle and really enhances the overall photo quality. There is good tone and contrast. Your descriptions of your workflow is indeed useful. Greetings! Danilo

Hi David,
Very good use of mixed medium ... subtle but very effective. Good depth and contrast. I like the overall quality of the tonal range. Well composed and processed. Well done! tfs

Renier

Being a colour kind of guy, I really like the coloured version, David. I must admit, however, that I do prefer the partially desaturated version. You caught exactly the right contrasts and shades, but most of all, the small boat really stands out terrifically.
Very well done. TFS

Hi David,

Indeed it is fun to try this. I remember one of my earlier pictures from South Africa with a blue Volkswagen Beetle - I just could not figure out how it was done, once you manage it is a great feeling.
By chosing this boat the harmony is still there because automatically you will look up to check what more there is to see.
Lovely work,

TFS

Good composition and a great idea to have the partially saturated boat. The b&w conversion is superb, with a great range of tones.
Thanks for sharing

Hi David,

I must say that this shot would be quite uninteresting if not processed like you did it. You've got quite interesting and unusual result with very strong (at least for me) primary object. Congrats!
