[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The body is as black as the coal that fires this engine. Steam rushing from its brass tubing as the wheels start to turn. This engine has seen many years, but it still wants to climb the steep mountain tops of the Dandenong Ranges ... departing Belgrave stand clear.

Technical:
My first experimental effort: Conversion to B+W applying a sepia filter. Adjusted curves and levels also added some vignetting.
My one annoyance with this image is the distraction of the carriages in the background, despite them being quite old. I am not sure how to best remove them??
Overall I am not really sure if this worked!

Fabulous mood and Sepia composition Peter.
I really like the contrast of the steam and steel.
Great clarity and tones. Well done.

What an interesting capture Dear Peter
I like B & W colors
Very well done
Thanks
Burak

Wow! This is so nice, Peter! Has a cinematic appeal. I like the tone.
TFS,
Freddie :)

Peter,
Excellent capture of this train. The steam rising adds much drama to this shot. The Sepia color is perfect for this and give the shot an aged look. Very nice work.

Kevin

Hello Peter
I think your pp has worked well, I'm still on the verty basics! Maybe the crop is a bit too tight, but still full of atmosphere.
Regards, Leslie

Hi Peter
The carriage show that its still in the railway yard and adds to the composition which is really well done.It has impact.
Good pp work.
Dot
If you wish to get rid of the cars try using the airbrush to get rid of them or clone some steam over them and lower the opacity a bit, you will get another whole look.

Hello Peter,
Another great engine shot to go along with Puffing Billy.is this another shot of Billy?

I would like to blow these 2 up and get them framed. I will discuss that possibility with you.
I don't really mind the cars in the back as one really only focuses on the engine anyway.
Dot has made some good suggestions tho.it would be easy enough to clone in more steam.
Great sepia work and just brilliant.
Another one for my favourites.
Be well,Joni

I really like the placement of the engine coming out of the smoke. Yes, the BG is slightly distracting but that is how it was.
The sepia tone you have added works well here to add to the timeless quality. tFS. Karin

Hello Peter,

What a fabulous train 'n steam shot! Wish I'd been there to see it for myself :)

As a solution for the 'distracting' carriages in the background: instead of removing them, how about blurring them a bit?

Greetz,

Nath

It worked for me; you can see why it's called Puffing Billy. A nice old-fashioned mood there.
