This is one of my latest attempts at low light photography, whilst on holiday to tropical Nth Queensland. My son (2yo) kept waking early, so to give mum a break, out we headed with camera and tripod.
This is the jetty at Palm Cove, north of Cairns in Far North Queensland. They say that when the winds are right, some big fish can be caught from the jetty. Some of the live bait itself would have provided a pretty good feed. I think they fish for Spanish Mackerel. One evening a I saw a small hammerhead shark caught.
Anyway, I thought it looked pretty good at dawn, with the cloud racing overhead (it was pretty windy). As suggested by others, I've reduced the aperature to increase DOF and improve all round focus. I still need a heavier tripod, but I'll have to save for that. |

Beautiful dreamlike scenery,Good composition that placed a soft perspective line to lighting pole at the end of jetty bridge,Interesting sky and soft wave also create dreamlike look.Good work,TFS.
HI Philip
THis is a stunning photo. The colours and details are awesome. I like the soft reflections on the water too. Well captured and great POV used. Well done!

Nice shot, perfectly exposed. The reflection of the lights on the water gives a lovely effect.
Lovely light effects and misty cloud and water effect. What length exposure was it? When was that jetty built? I don't think it was there in the mid 80s.
Now this my dear fellow is so much better than the shot you did in Port Melbourne a while back.... Good sharpness from the smaller aperture. Nice composition. Scudding clouds - tally ho.
Good work
