~ The Giant Water lily - Victoria amazonica ~

Victoria is a genus of water lilies, in the plant family Nymphaeceae, with very large leaves that float on the water's surface. The most well known and largest has a leaf that is up to 3 m (9.8ft) in diameter, on a stalk 7–8 m (22.9-26.2 ft) in length. The genus name was given in honour of the newly crown Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.

Victoria amazonica is native to the shallow waters of the Amazon river basin, such as oxbow lakes and bayous. The flowers are white the first night they are open and become pink the second night. They are up to 40 cm in diameter, and are pollinated by scarab beetles.

Really like the low POV and the tight cropping here - very effective shot. Nice depth of field effect as well...good posting.

Hi Martyn,
What a great POV of this water lily, at first sight it seemed a real abstract. :) Beautiful blue tones, excellent sharpness and details on the whole picture. Original presentation of a special plant, TFS, I have never seen this before. Thanks for the informative note, too!
Greetings,
Kristof

Bonjour Martyn
Very good pov and composition, nice colours .It gives the wish to jump from one to the other
Good day

Fantastic POV for this subject. I like the seeing turned up edges of the leaves, and the reflective surface of the water complements the textures of the water lilies nicely. Excellent!
