[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I don't often photograph trees - but the colour was so rich on this one I had to give it a go....

Any idea what tree it is? Any botonists out there? It was in the park on the south side of the 'Swan River'.

I know I've made the basic elemental mistake of cutting off the top branches (note to self- take more care with composition) but I thought the combination of red, green and blue was worth showing.

I've been working so much with my 10-20 these days, I can recognize it's a 10mm pic even by looking at the thumbnail :)

Definitely good work, the composition is interesting and the lens adds depth to (and helps stand out) a subject that is overdone. The sky is interesting too, although I think it has created some problems with the contrast. Probably a cloud-free sky would have been better, but this one works as well

Hi David,
Beautiful colors,beautiful place,very sharp,well done,congratulation.
Best regards,
Ralf

Hi David,
Beautiful colors and view with very good sharpness and detail. Marvellous composition. Yes, the red flowers combined with that wonderful sky are simply gorgeous!

Nice sharpness and detail. Nice use of the wide lens. Maybe not so good to cut off the tippy-top of the tree, at least in my opinion, but it's a small detail and the overall impact of tree plus sky is awesome.
Rew

indeed some branches are cut
a minor detail
the picture has a good impact
good depth effect, good light and contrasts too,

Hi David,
this is a nice one! The colors are lovely. Very good sharpness and details.
And I gree with what chrysalis has said.
Great work!
TFS!

Hi David - This is a beautiful kind of tree, I think it is called flame tree. The white clouds in the BG and the lushious green lawn help accentuate the red blossoms. TFS and have a good week! - Cordelia :))

I don't know what it is, but I gotta have one! LOVE it...almost looks like a poppy! I love this David! Excellent super wide angle shot! The sun is in perfect placement, 90 degrees, so the colors are rich! Actually cutting off the tip of the branches is totally ok. I learned from another photographer on this site that it works well, even when you are shooting faces! Cut off their dome!
B-)

Hi David,

Nice shot of the colorful tree even if the top was pruned ;). I'm always cutting of heads, faces, buildings, etc... deliberately. It's just a different look David. I would not have noticed had you not mentioned it. I also like all of the shadows on the ground. This looks like a terrific place to walk. It's an all around pleasing photo.

Enjoy your day, Lisa

Fabulous level of detail and color here David.
This is gorgeous shot, the only nitpick would be how tight the crop is,
and how central the subject is. The eye doesn't have a lot of room to move here.
But it's a such a vibrant and interesting tree,
it almost doesn't matter.
Nice work!
- Vincent

Hi David,
Indeed a rich coloured tree, perfect red tones contrasting against the sky. It appears to me you took this picture from a platform, you have relatively high POV looking at the bench. Also it look if the twigs and flowers of the tree look like they have some (artificial) radial blur, which give the picture a strange but nice kind of "motion" sense. Anyway I like this posting David, great one.
Hans

Hi David.

Extremly lovable photo with such good realisation. Colord are strong and defined and just small thing that is "unusual" is distortion on the small objects on the right, but it is logical beacuse of the lenses. Beautiful work!

TFS!

Sincerely,
David

Hello David,

Colors and contrasts are superb on this composition.
The prospect for the trees, behind plan, with the bench gives depth to the image.
Good work

Laurent

H David,
Perfect use of the wide angle--I recently bought the same lens for a canon mount and am very happy with it--you made it sing here; the slight curvature and way it deepened the depth of the sky is terrific.
Nicely composed and presented.
Great sharpness and color rendition.
This is so clear and so sharp that it's fun to look at.
I like the placement of the bench too.
TFS,
Wilt

Like the wide angle lens
poss bit tight crop
think this is called a 'flame tree'

Vibrant colors indeed. The polarizing filter usage was a good call here. Apparture 7.1 makes the three crisp and sharp all the way.
As you mentioned, you need more sky over the tree. Perhaps a lower pov (to the ground level) at 10mm would have given you that depth and more dynamic to the common composition that had chosen.

Lovely display of colours and a great use of the 10-20mm, my favourite lens! Nice work!

Hi David
Compo magnific, what a aonderful tree!

Hey Bro!
It's been a while, but I'm back. Nice work here, these trees look awesome when in flower - very vibrant. Great colours. The top missing doesn't take away from the image at all in my opinion - would have been too much sky. Only thing that irks me is the bench - my eye keeps being drawn to it.
pman

Hi David,
I do cut tops of trees every time i can and frankly it doesn't matter much to me that you did not include the top of this gorgeous tree ( do not ask me what it is -no idea ! ) as it is very much an integral part of your compo and being the principal subject in it , one can only concentrate on the appearance and natural beauty of Mr Magnificient, it takes up all the attention and for good reasons it's just a feast for the eyes ! Details are superb , one i like , perhaps a bit central in the frame but still a great-looking shot ,
Carol

Beautiful David! The splendid colors of the tree look wonderful!
Nice sharpness and light. Sky looks just lovely here!

Cheers,
Shubhi:)
