Back to the 'Land Downunder' - and Perth now has a big ferris wheel.. This seems to be the trend in a lot of cities now.. Anyway, this one's on the banks of the 'Swan River' and as it was such a nice warm, early autumn evening I headed down there with my trusty Velbon tripod to try and get a few 'blue' hour shots.

This is taken from one RAW shot, 2 extra exposures made at +2 and +3 EV and the 3 photos combined as an HDR.. I had to do it this way because by the time I got my camera around to this view it was virtually dark, and the wheel is very brightly lit - so to expose for that the rest of the original photo is virtually black. This shows the advantages of digital photography over that of film..

HDR, cropped, straightened and noise reduced.

EXIF - 13 secs,f22,ISO100, +1 EV at 10mm focal length.

Hello David,

The shot sounded very complicated but the result is impressive.
I love the pov where the attractive, 'shark fin' shape points the way sharply to the ferris wheel. The wheel itself, resembles a giant spinning saucer casting its light back to the start (the fin), where the circular support links the two.
There is so much detail to engage the viewer and set a great atmospheric context.

Have a Happy Easter Sunday,
Bev :-)

Bonjour David
Nice sundial and strange wheel in this beautiful landscape ; its oe is welcome here; and because maybe of the sundial,it makes me think of a solar furnace as you can see it in Odeillo, or here
Beautiful ppw shot

Hi David,
That's a great night scene from Australia, the saturation of colours are absolutely good, you used the available light well. The result is a pin sharp nightshot, interesting view. I would like to take a ride on that huge wheel! :) Thanks for the informative technical note, too.
Greetings,
Kristof

Hello David.
Very nice and colourful picture in this 'Blue hour'.
I had to open the 'properties', as I see noise in the sky. (and less Kb's)
Wonder if this also accour, when you didn't used HDR, but a straight Jepeg. ?
Best regards from Jan

Hi David,

Great photo! Lighting is at its best! The wide-angle composition is pleasing. Spectacular sky and the effect of the big ferris wheel are creating a great impact to the capture.
Good job. A Happy Easter.

Great shot David. When I first opened this and was scrolling down, it looked like a huge inverted bowl .. or plate. Then the sundial caught my attention. Just a very interesting shot, whatever you did to get this. Love the colors and the twinkling lights of the city, back left.

A UFO!!! Oh my goodness! This gets an award! It's OVER THE TOP! I feel like I'm looking at the Twilight Zone! Good job David! I love how you did this! Happy Easter!

Hi David,

Very impressive nocturnal shot, the long exposure created
like a laser beams around the ferris wheel. The POV and composition is superb, very well executed long exposure shot.

Cheers,
Ramon

It looks quite out of this world David - as if it's a space ship that's landed!! And made even more so with that strange sun dial in the FG.
Good shot, and well done on your HDR.

Wow, nice HDR work David. Normally I don't like them all that much, but this one is masterful. It looks like that ferris wheel will be spinning off into outer space at anytime!

Thanks for sharing.

David, GREAT image!! Your use of layers and digital software is awesome. I have not yet learned those techniques, but am very interested in HOW they are done. You have combined the images so that none of them are visible to the other. Great Job!!
