Twenty five minutes after taking Gorge View I arrive at Cliff Grounds. A slight change of scenery after looking at slowly moving waters and dolomite cliffs. Although I had previously visited this area I had not been to the Cliff Grounds picnic area. More shots of this delightful garden will follow.

The gardens were designed in the style popular in Victorian England at the time. It is also a collector’s garden, with trees and other plants from all over the world planted there. The European settlers still had nostalgic yearnings for the gardens of their homeland, and is the reason why in the 1890’s they tried to recreate the places that were familiar to them, including the decorative peacocks that were introduced and that still roam the grounds along with the native wallabies that can be seen grazing on the lawns alongside them.

The picnic grounds are enclosed by giant exotic trees like the magnificent Californian Redwood Sequoia sempervirens as well as an array of elms, ashes and a large European Lime Tilia x europaea.

Being only a short stroll from the city centre makes it easily accessible, and is the reason why the people of Launceston and visitors have continually used the location since it was built late last century.

Hello David,
very 'inviting' picture, the bench in the BG must be a wonderful spot to get a great view. Very well captured scenery with a excellent POV.
Have a great week..Sky

It is nice to know at least some people have kept their natural reserves close to where people can make use of them without having to travel. Thank you David
Diane

Hi David,
A beautiful place to begin a beautiful history. I hesitate between a tale for child or a thriller for adult. Environment stimulates much imagination here:)(your note gives many elements which could be introduced there)
Great colors and details. The shades and the light are well balanced. Bravo! Annie

what a beautiful place, feel like taking the blanker out, a nice thick book to use as a pillow and having a nice old snooze.

Thanx for the comments on JUMP

Nice composition David, so natural and welcoming. I enjoy looking at the wrinkly branches of the tree on the right. Nothing straight growing at all. Good one,
Janice

Hi David, Another good capture from Tasmania. I linked from another photo and thought this may have been from UK before reading the details. The branches and twigs came up very clear and are good to see. Great cropping. Murray.
