[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo was taken just after crossing the causeway which is the site of the original ford across the South Esk. Looking downriver through the lingering mist and shade cast by the dolomite cliffs.

The power of water can be seen at its best when the Gorge is in full flood and is so powerful that its force can move huge boulders. The water in the First Basin is a popular swimming place in summer when the water is glassy and calm, but is so deep that not far below the surface the temperature of the water is only just above freezing.

Being only a short stroll from the city centre makes it easily accessible, and is the reason why the people of Launceston and visitors have continually used the location since it was built late last century.

Greetings my friend David.

Nice POV and lovely mood created in your photo.Agree with John Tulip except that tomorrow you will probably trump this one.
You are capturing elements of Peter Dombrovskis in your Cataract Gorge series.
Well done.TFS.
Kind regards,
Robert

This is really good with the mists and I love rivers. Looks like it has the usual Australian 'look and feel' of the colors which seems different than anywhere else.

a lovely calming image, just to stand and stare... thanx, M, (*_*)

Wonderful, the mist, the runnning water, so relaxing. Freshness from the mist, warmth from the sun, what more do you want?
TFS.

David strikes again. I think we are now waiting to see how you will top the day before, somehow you always seem to find the way, beautiful as usual and thank you for that.
I think it will be noice to see some of these places in summer when you have a totaly new light, the photos wont be better, just different.
Thank you David
Diane

Hi David,
What a serene feel to this photo. The foggy BG is really beautiful. The stream and rocks are leading the eye perfectly into the photo. You might want to try a even lower POV for a larger FG interest.

Niek

Hi David,
This is really a great place to visit and I like visiting it with your very beautiful photo. The foggy mood is still excellent with this great POV. Very well done.

Hi Dave,

Very nice composition and depth in this image my friend. Good PP work too, I love the way the light features as it plays on the rocks and highlights the water just enough without causing any glare. Great image

John

Hi David,
I have been away for a while and so am trying to catch up with postings. This one is just perfect. What a relaxing mood! Your POV, composition and the light fog give the taste of going to rest in the heart of this landscape. Congratulations! Annie

I think this is a nice image, David. The mistyness is nice. I agree with Niek about having a larger, stronger foreground element.
