Something a little different than my previous offerings. Most mornings when I venture to the yacht basin there are numerous varieties of waterfowl. They feed on the rising or ebbing tides and then leave. I can only assume that they are heading for the wetlands reserve further downriver.

Two mallards captured in flight with my camera at maximum (non digital) zoom.

Tamar Island Wetlands

The Tamar Island Wetlands is an unique urban wetlands reserve just ten minutes drive from the heart of Launceston in Tasmania's north. An outstanding Interpretation Centre offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the great value of the wetlands.

Tamar Island has been Crown Land since settlement and up to the 1980s was leased to private and public operators. In the 1980s the Tasmanian Government purchased the wetlands area around Tamar Island, which was incorporated into the greater Tamar River Conservation Area. The Tamar Island Wetlands are managed by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service, with important assistance from Wildcare volunteers.

The banks of the Tamar River just a few minutes north of Launceston create a special haven for variety of wild birdlife such as pelicans, cormorants, swans and flightless native hens as well as frogs, dragonflies and lizards. The Tamar Island Wetlands is a sanctuary providing the opportunity for you to observe the behaviour of these creatures at close range along a boarded walkway to the island is level so is accessible to most visitors. You can also visit the wetlands interpretation centre.

PP Work…lots of leveling especially in the buildings in the background, colour fade correction, cropped, framed and resized. I deliberately tried not to overdo the colour or the birds became ‘lost’.

He who dies with the most toys, is, nonetheless, still dead.

Ha, were you out to prove it isnt always foggy down there???? Very nice way to prove the point if I may say so. Nice to know such an area isnt going to become another tourist developement, the ducks staying below the tree line have kept themselves in line wih a natural background, very nice thank you for your hard work as Publicity Officer for Tassie

Excellent capture. You got to focus the ducks on fly and its not so easy.
Regards
Jacobo

You catch them from a certain distance? You have a good close up... I practice a couple of occasion ands it's not easy... The most they are near, most the action is fast to follow!
They were probably in a low altitude. The inclinaison and house give a special style for a duck shot :)
I like it!
