I am told by my youngest step daughter Shannon that this is a 'wannabe' Gothic look, what that means I have no idea. I was waiting at my bus stop in the city and looked across the road and saw this young lady, pencil thin so much so that the post almost obscured her. In the workshop another image this time with her consort.

Tasmania was isolated for so long back in the days of the early settlers that the culture even today is completely different than that I have seen anywhere on mainland Australia... fashion, speech and even some of the words they use to describe food and drink.

PS An update on the look, it is called EMO, why once again I have no idea

PP Work...a lot of playing with shadow, midtone and highlights in an attempt to alleviate some of the brightness, levelled, cropped, framed and resized all using Paint Shop Pro X.

If you understand something today, it must be obsolete.

I understand....she didn't quite make the Gothic look there with those purple socks! HAHAHA! I got a pic of me when I was 10 years old that looks like this! That was 1970!! All I can say is that I would not be caught DEAD wearing knee socks with shorts!...
B-)
Nice shot!
Linda

Oh joy, I did it again, typed this in, looked at the ws and wiped this.10c for each time I have done this would pay a few bills.
Your subject may be thin but her b/friend looks even skinnier. This is of course jealousy talking , I could loose 20kg and still not blow over, well nearly anyway.
Nice shots both of them David, thanks for the insight into local fashions.
Diane

OK, this is different, hey?
I like the one in the WS where the boyfriend is looking at you :-). Love his "What the f***!!!" expression.
Nice to see another part of Tasmania.

Definitely like the WS - there is quite some attitude showing! Wannabe Goth, right! Probably want's to impress the boyfriend, but hasn't got the idea of what goth is...
Good capture either way of a everyday street scene.
Cheers
Otto

Nice one David, it's good to branch out into something different.
I would have cropped off to the second window on the left, as I prefer her to be not right in the centre, imho.
EMO - no, I have no idea, but I don't think she's in dark enough clothes to be a Gothic...
Shows our age, eh!!
Janice

Wonderful street scene David and also good archirecture shot. Good seen and captured.Looks like a good place for us women to go shopping there :) Vandana

Hi David,
This is a nice capture with the shops around. I would have propably cut the left rose shop since the writing is capturing my attention out of the main subject which is the lady. The workshop is really good with the boyfriend looking at you. Very well done.
Luc

hmmm not sure about the look, but I guess when I look at photos of when I was a kid I bet there were people who said the same thing about me...ha ha
Anyhow thanks for the look inside your world...I don't understand why some think that looks of no meat on their bones is a good thing..sad thing really....lucky for me I never have to worry about it!! :o)
Thanks for the photo, meanwhile I love the photo as well because of all the window decorations and the shadows and reflections in the windows...nice shot TFS
Donna:o)

Hi David,
This is different cake than I'm used from you. Like this kind of daily life puictures to. Nice sharp and lots of things to see. I do not know how the Gothic looks in Tasmania is defined, but in Europe the clothing is long (coats and dresses)and black with lot of nails, bolts, nuts and screws all over the place. Anyhow these are nice people, no problem and so looks this young lady. Nice seen and well captured my friend!
Hans

:) Later...

As promised...

Hi David,
very beautiful street and nice colours.
Best Wishes,
Deniz:)

you are getting to old dave, that is cool! 8~)

yeah, right!

that is the typical, I have way to many whsikeys the last week, have not bothered to brush my hair or teeth, lost all senses of colour and co-ordintaion...

yeah! it rocks! if your head is filled with funny stuff.

jaco

david,
compare to american gothic culture this young lady seems to me more victorian(!!).
yes culture can be different but in todays world it is more global and intertwined.
good timely capture of the subject with the clothing shop on the bg. good color and detail.

Hello David,
Hello David,
Interesting daily street life scenery!
Fine details including reflections, well done...
Pity part of her is behind that pole, but the situation has some fine qualities!
Greetings,
Pablo -

An interesting image has been caught from daily life. Skinny lady standing in a normal mood, unlike camera concious. Nice PP work has been done. Fine details and good light. Well done David.

Thanks for sharing this image.

Hi Dave,

Gothic look... I have no idea what it means either... :))
Indeed she is so thin that she could easily hide behind that metal post...lol...

Well done
Constantinos

The WS photo is great too!
Best regards, Francesco

Hi David,
A different type of shot for you, but I like it! The "busy-ness" of the window with its reflections, not to mention the fashion of your subject, all draws in the viewer.

I've heard my kids use the term "emo", but I'm thankful none of them are into it. I know a few kids who are, though, and they are still good kids--it's just difficult to not stare at them.

All the best,
Karen

This girl doesn't know how silly she looks to us! I see girls and boys who look like this at my school, even some of the boys wear tight girl pants! YUCK!
