Part of my Melbourne Grand Prix 2007 theme.

The idea of this image is to give a glimpse of the steerfing wheel of a Formula 1 racing car. Interestingly, many - but not all - drivers had a map of the circuit stuck inside their cockpit.

"The driver has the ability to fine tune many elements of the race car from within the machine using the steering wheel. The wheel can be used to alter traction control settings, change gears, apply rev limiter, adjust fuel air mix, change brake pressure and call the radio. Data such as rpm, laptimes, speed and gear is displayed on an LCD screen. The wheel alone can cost about $40,000, and with carbon fibre construction, weighs in at 1.3 kilograms."

Technical blurb: shot in Raw, converted, cropped, resized, sharpened, frame added and brightness/contrast fiddled with to help us see the steering wheel.

Nice shot Richard.
Look at the sterring wheel, looks like a play station or xbox control! Boys and there toys!

Great image, well captured, details and colours are sharp and clear. Nice POV.

That is so interesting about the map. Never heard that before. You's think they know it by heart after the practice sessions. And I am still amazed at how close you managed to get. Were you standing on a balcony just above the pit lane or what?

Hi Kilted,
Still dreaming about your F1 experience? ;) You must have a great time and looking at the postings so far a great time too! Any news on the Pit Girls? Great shot my friend, fine shining colours, although the white areas appears a bit OE, also a pity the 'R.Schumacher' texts isn't fully sharp. Bur unless these critiques you used this unique opportunity and shared this with us here on TL which is greatly appreciated Richard! Take care and have a good time, see you around on TL.
Hans

Hey Richard, maybe it's my monitor, but it seems OVERLY bright, almost OE up on the front of the car. I played around with a WS, Hope you like it!.... ***I hope you aren't one of those people who believe in leaving the pic just as you see it??!?!** HAHAHA!

Hi Richard,
It makes you wonder at the speeds these things go how they have time to ajust anything on the steering wheel, talk to the pits and still manage to stay on the road.
Great shot again with good colours though I have to agree that the nose looks a bit OE but with a shot like that it's a small detail.
(You would think with all the money in F1 they would have a tom tom not a map lol)

That steering whell reminds me of a gameboy or contoller to an Xbox. Very cool angle and great post. TFS

formula 1 without michael schumacher is just not the same...and his little brother is just
not good enough...but your shot is really terrific, the view on the steering wheel is
amazing - i really wonder, what games are played during the rounds.*g*
it looks like he is going to or coming from a pit stop with his gas cap open.
terrific job & take care, thor.

Hi Richard

I would love to get this close to an F1 car! Lucky you! Great idea. I was disappointed in the result of Malaysia. It could have easily been Ferrari 1st and 2nd, but Felipe Massa blew it!
