The North Esk River is normally quite serene as seen here . During the month of May Launceston itself had 90mm (approx 3.5") of rain. The surrounding catchment areas obviously had a lot more judging by the amount of water in the river on this particular day. I had only gone to the St Leonards picnic ground to try and get some sunset shots. The pinkish tinge is the effect of the sunset which was behind me.

The catchment area of the North Esk covers an area of about 1,065 km2 directly to the east of the City of Launceston, and discharges into the Tamar Estuary. The North Esk River is 91 km long, a relatively steep river by Tasmanian standards and originates on the slopes of Ben Nevis.

PP Work...added border and resized.

US TOO David!! floods, rain....but I got to go down the river on the rapids this weekend and it was alot of fun! The San Gabriel River was up 5 or 6 feet and we had a wonderful time in the raft! Looks like you have had your share of rain!...soon to turn to ice?? Diane had a pic the other day of ice on her husbands car!
Nice shot here, love the soft pinks, oranges, purples of the clouds!

Hello David,
glad to see another photo from you, Excllent work, With great detail sI really like the colors of the setting sun alot well composed and excllent done Shot''
TFS Kyle

So that is where it all ended up, for all the rain we have had up here it has done very little to fill the dams where it was needed. There was a bit in a paper that they had recieved about 2 weeks worth, and still they grumbled, at least it was 2 weeks. Been so dry it has taken so much to soak the ground again, oh well IT WILL BREAK.
I love the colour, you are so right about the colour being in the east when the sun goes down, west may be spectacular but the eastern view is so pretty.
Diane

Hi David,
This is the perfect photo to represent the weather here today...thunderstorms, lighting and rain! (A great day to stay indoors.) Very colorful display the sun is putting on, great details, and crisp images, thanks for sharing,
Fran

Hi David,

Nice shot of showing how the river behaves due to heavy raining. I have similar cases few times, and some are worst for couple of days.

Well presented the condition.

Hi David,
It makes me feel good to see such a large amount of water flowing so fast. A fabulous image with lovely colours reflecting onto the water. Just beautiful. Keep warm.

ps: Glad to see you started posting David.

Hi David, Sounds like the prayers for rain were answered as up here too. We had something like 350 mm ! Good to see this stream composition with coloured skies above. Good work. Murray.

Hi David,
a wonderful composition, with excellent division of space and great POV. The river acts like an lead in line and pulls in the eyes.
Lovely colors and wonderful scenery.

Hi David,

I like lukewarm landscapes and half that rosy, no a lot of orange and nor very red, soft as this.
This tree dries lying down on the bed of the river is wonderful, this scenery reminds me the interior where I go, the rivers there they are like this wide but of a lot of closed forest to his circuit.
Big visual, beautiful!
Greetings!!

Sérgio

nice wide angle David and good purple tones in the pic
nice one again

Hello David,
There is some strange light in this image, but then I think twice and realize I have to compare with Desember here, which makes more sense!
The sky reflects nicely off the river, adding to the atmosphere!
Greetings,
Pablo

Hi David,

Lovely scene, with excellent lighting, good DOF, beautiful, natural colors and nicely composed. Its hard to imagine this scene not as peaceful as in the photo.
TFS,

david,
excellent!!
here the color of the sky melts into the water of the river. a bit subdued yet so forceful. well done.

hi, david
some flood you had there... and now the one of the coldest junes. hope you'll recover soon and we'll see the bright side of that land.
the water here seems to be metallic, lead like. thanks
wish you all the best,
cal
