| Exposed Beech tree roots Tara Bulga National Park. Some of these forest giants are alleged to be thousands of years old. Unfortunately there are only two small areas of significance still surviving in the Strezleki ranges. As a result of Land Conservation Council recommendations in the early 1980s Tarra Valley and Bulga National Parks were amalgamated and enlarged. The re-named Tarra Bulga National Park of 1,522 hectares came into existence in June 1986. This reduced pressure on the original sites of development in the parks, offered greater opportunities for recreation by park visitors and protected additional vegetation communities representative of the Strzelecki Ranges. The Tarra Valley and Bulga sections of the park were finally linked in 1991 as a result of a land exchange between APM Forests (now AMCOR) and the Crown |
