[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Dominic Moneypenny, who rows in spite of a spinal lesion, is one of a record number of Tasmanian rowers chosen to represent Australia in the Beijing Olympics. I captured this shot of Dominic in his WinTech Racing Australia boat, at the completion of his training session on a very foggy Anzac morning, the 25th April, this year.

Dominic, who will be competing at Beijing in the adaptive men's single scull, won gold at the 2005 World Cup (Gifu Japan), gold at the 2006 World Cup (Eton Great Britain) and silver at the 2007 World Cup (Munich Germany), he is the current Tasmanian disabled athlete of the year.

In the workshop is a distant photo I took as Dominic propelled himself back to the clubhouse.

Tasmania's Beijing contingent is 12, including three coaches and Tasmanian Institute of Sport rowing coach, Ron Batt, says Tasmanians make up a considerable portion of the Australian team of 44 rowers. He says that is a testament to the strength of rowing in Tasmania.

Hi David, as an "ex rower" with a (mild) disability, I can appreciate this picture.. good words as well. tfs..

Another great photo, David. Even the immensity of space around him is almost plain, my eyes move around all of it, and that smooth, calm water in contrast of the powerful rower makes this photo look at it and to him with admiration. TFS

Well David,

There is nothing wrong with this man's attitude - hope he brings home gold!

Lovely picture and note.

The composition here is great, David -- but I do not know whether it is the quality of the monitor here or the quality of the photo that has created a pixillated halo around boat and rower?? (editor's note: MUST be the monitor -- I see noise everywhere!!)

Hello David
What strykes my attention first is the impression of solitude due to the blank environment around the rower.
Good luck to Dominic and to the 44 other rowers of Tasmania.
G'day.
Robert

Hi David..this is a nice composition..great moody feel with nice details.

David,
Very nice action shot. Looks like this guy is working hard. I hope he does well.

Hello David,

What a pearl of wisdom!
I really do like this shot!
The lack of any other item in the shot really gives the impression that he is alone, struggling against the elements and his own desire! Very strong indeed!

I don't mind if a gets a medal, David.
He will great on the podium next to our gold winner!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
p.s. you owe me a birthday date!
pp.s. Many thanks for your warm comments on 'A bird with character'.

Hi David,
You've captured and composed the scene perfectly. The simplicity of the composition clearly defines the focus towards your subject. Excellent work! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi David,
Sorry to take so long getting back to you, just not enough time.
I like you shot of this brave athlete, I couldn't imagine a harder sport for a person with a spinal problem.
All the very best to him, and you.
Cheers,
Pete.

Very nice David, the fog has isolated him, he almost looks becalmed!

Sharp with lots of detail in the rower.

On a sea of silver, so calm and smooth. Good capture David, I can even see him grimacing from here.

PS Just checked the WS - what a man. I wish him well in China

Hello David,
This is a fine composition and an interesting story!
Good diagonal movement, and the image conveys well how alone you are in a single sculler...
Good luck to Tasmanian rowers in the Olympics!

Very nice David!! Arrrgg!! I'm out of pennies! Oh well, tomorrow K? This is so smooth and nice! Really nice white on his sleeves, a real depth maker for this shot! Breaks up the greys! I like it alot!

Hi Dave .. back my friend .. and this is a nice way many of us can take a good example from:
Dominic Moneypenny !
I am sure your proud of this fellow Tasmanian, and his chances are good ..since I am not in this match with my Kayak :-) Hope all is fine with Your wife and little Tinka

Greetings
John

Hi David,
interesting colour and effect.
I like the way the water and background are fused together infinitely due to the atmospheric conditions which you captured well.

Best regards, Daniel

Hi Dave,
Lovely shot of this rower. Best of luck to him at Beijing this summer. I like monotonic background here so that the picture is totally focused on the main subject.
