When Helen first proposed this weeks theme I made the comment in the thread “Now if it were 'that' sort of site we could have 'clothing optional'”.

Mark Twain said “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society”.

The window display from one of the menswear shops in the city, the thin vertical line and the diagonal line are the edges of the open door. I deliberately left some reflections on the door which can be seen between the ties and the lighter coloured suit. To the right the partial reflection of the one suit in the main shop window, I did have one version without it but it just didn’t look right.

Hello David
a straight to the point capture.
I love the way they blend into black.
Great Capture.

Hello David! Wonderful shot. Original composition. Good light and shadow. Nice effect. Well done!

Hello David,

This is very professional!
Is this what the smart Tasmanian is wearing this year?
The important items stand out so well against the dark b/g and are crisp and sharp.
I like the little artistry with the reflection.
A very nicely composed shot.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi David,
Nice clean image, when I saw the thumbnail, I thought you had used a sixties image.
The flares, and the price are so nostalgic. Mind you, I'm no fashion buff, all I know is if you keep your clothes long enough, they come back into fashion.
Good one for the theme.
Cheers,
Pete.

hello David
nice capture of the classic line. elegant, professional, evergreen and alltime faviourte,
good dark Bg which helps your subject to stand out.

So this is what you lot wear in Tassie? Polyester suits?? And yes, I like the reflection too.

Similar title thought as mine David!! And I think Mark Twain was copying someone else's saying of a few centuries earlier.

"Vestis virum facit" "Clothes make the man" -- Latin Proverb

"Clothes make the man, but nakedness makes the human being." - Kevin Kearney

Hi David

Great addition to the theme!
Not sure I like the suit though..LOL

Regards
Tracey

Bom dia David

Yes David,

After reading the thread I was wondering if there were any clothes to be seen in your upload!
I like the reflection of the light coloured suit - excellent light and textures to be seen and love to know that clothes and manners do not make the man......

TFS,
Els

Naked people have little or no influence on society...HAHAHA! No kidding!! but we still have nudist colonies here in Texas! Nice work on this one David! Love these clothes against the black BG! Great comp on this one!
B-)
Linda

Not my style David, but very well taken. It's good that their heads are in shadow, or was that part of the BG clutter? Good posting.

Hi David

Masculine clothes for events in general!
I liked the arrangement of the mannequins in the shop window
of the store, the clothes, the ties and a beautiful natural light
defining the details of the pieces well.
Congratulations, great innovative shot!

Sérgio

Hello David,I like your composition with the suits emerging from the dark bg.
The reflection on the right hand side adds to the shot.
Good pp work to produce a quality shot.
I enjoyed the notes too.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi David,
Excellent composition and PP work! The tones are so classy and elegant! An invitation to buy...200$, not very expensive for a great tempting effect!!!
Very nicely done! Annie

hi David

The striped blue shirt makes a good contrast to the suite and this window dressing is catchy.

tfs, bill

Hello David

Simple sharp well lit and good texture. I really like this shot but what makes it even better for me is the reflection in the window giving us the other side view of the suit.

Very well seen and shot

TFS and for joining in the theme

kind regards Helen

Hey David
I wonder how Twain could be so off! lol
Nice clean addition to this week :)

Hi David,
They're pretty well priced too. The dark background made the suits standout ... good consumer display. I like the overall image clarity and sharpness. Well done! tfs

Hello David
A contradictory saying in french: "L'habit ne fait pas le moine" !!
Good work on clothes; all have the correct depiction and are seen through a "glassless" showcase!
The owner of store would be pride of the result!
Have a g'day.
Sorry for the delay.

I wrote this critique yesterday, my friend of many faces and some how I never posted it, before I logged out. Got called away and forgot to come back, I am sorry. Any way I very much like the light and reflections you have captured here. The way the clothes stand out against the dark background is very impressive, indeed. Great idea for the theme and wonderful crop. Excellent.
Warmest Regards
Wanda

Hi David,
I can't help but notice that the suit pant appears 'bell bottom' in shape. I don't follow fashion, and this is interesting. The dark b/g enhances the display. Have a good w/e. Danilo

Hello Dave
I like the textures and costume shapes you captured here!
The image is very well exposed, and the colour palette is attractive...
Well framed still 'dressing' life!
What I do not like are the colors of the shirt with the light custume :-)
but this critique is NOT for you but the Shopkeeper
And ofcourse..taste is personal ^_^
Well posted and a good explanation of the 'tech part ' here
Greetings and a good weekend to Sandie and you Dave,

John

So, did you buy it?
That color with that shirt will go well with the color of your hair :-).
Good capture.
Very different and very appropriate for the theme.

Hello David!
Nice picture for Fridays theme!
Good detail, beautiful colours!
Clothes can do a lot with the peoples image, but clothes can't change the caracter.
Best regards!

Great seemingly simple idea for this theme.
Well composed, which makes the fairly common image so much more than that.
Nice handling of lighting and reflections too.
Good post work too.

Hi David

Good entry in the 'clothes' theme, with excellent sharpness & light contrasts. I like the graphism of the ties. Tfs!

I have a wonderful T-Shirt with that exact Mark Twain quote. I get all kinds of comments when I wear it - "stop hold still so I can read" type.
Nicely done David - very applicable for the theme. that what is so much fun about these Friday postions - how do people around the world come up with postions. Fun stuff.

Dan

Later:

Hi David, very apt for the them.
Nice composition on the window's men garment.
I agree with Mark Twain's assesment.

Well captured, no window reflections, and great lighting.
I see that this is a shop for young men looking at the flared pants.

Well done. Cheers, Yan :)

Hi David,
Apparently I missed this posting, sorry. It is a superb tribute to the "clothing theme". Great idea, well executed good sharpness and great control of the brightness. Great image my friend!
Hans

Hi David,

very nice illustration of what you have written in your note. A bit sarcastic photo in this context - that's why I like it even more... Would say tha photo says - enough to make move the suit to have a man... isn't it called puppet? :-)

As of tech aspects I am not sure about the rightmost reflection. It's your choice (your photo!) but I'd clone it out with dark bg, along with the silver thingy at the bottom (door hinge?) Beautiful and meaningful shot

tfs

Thank you David! :-)

After I have seen the WS version I confirm that for me clearer and stronger is the photo without these reflections :-) Thanks again!

Marek
