Pierre Frigon celebrated a birthday on the 9th of July, a birthday which I neglected to remember, after loading this image last year I forgot to add the day to my list.

I should have remembered when I was taking photos on the 9th, a day of a slight fog and I wanted to try out some post processing which Pierre had suggested.

This one for Pierre who has often commented on the lack of wind on the Tamar estuary and the fog, I hope your day was enjoyable Pierre.

Bonsoir,
The calm of the water is barely troubled by a slight shivering that breaks a little reflection of the masts of ships to dock and perfect placed these yellow buoys that break the long perceptive of still water of the harbour. The shades of gray, just tinged with pink in the sky, the sun is out of the fog with the port that still seems sleepy. Very sharp and nice frame.
A beautiful e-card to wish a happy birthday Pierre Frigon
TFS, regards
Corinne

By curiosity is this a lightvessel boat and a ferry to the right?

I truly love your estuary through your eyes, my friend of many faces. As always this is superb with its colours that are so subtle yet so strong. The composition follows all the rules and makes us appreciate why the rules are there. The buoys in the foreground are just perfect.
A very happy birthday to Pierre on his break. He is under a good sign ;) .
Warmest regards
Wanda

Hi David,
Those buoys may look small but they are just as important as your main subject because it created a balance in your foreground at the same time anchored your main scene ... perfectly composed! Good application of rule-of-thirds too while the reflections add dimension to the image. Excellent work! tfs

Renier

Hello David
The accent is on serenity conveyed by the long and calm lead-in and the muted colors.
I imagine the deep sound of a fog horn emitted by an approaching ship to complete the mood!!
Thanks for your kind words and steady support since we know each-other. I now take a break for vacation and I'll be happy to hear from you again in about three weeks.
God bless.
Robert

Hello David,
So thoughtful of you to dedicate this well composed image to Pierre. The silvery almost monochromatic water and sky seem to blend in, very attractive. Sharp and with good exposure. Best regards, Danilo

Beautiful.
Thank you for the wishes and the gift of his amazing shot.
So clear and sharp you can even identify those stupid seagulls :-).

This shot, as captured and presented, has a wonderful feel to it. The slight pinkish tone, where one can perceive any color at all, the glass smooth to light ripple and back to smooth surface of the water just adds also to the sense of the whole scene.
Thanks for the view,
Wilt

Alot of mood to this. I like the beautiful color tones and the reflection. Great job! TFS and have a happy day!

great color in the boats. the water looks nice, so calm. unique way of framing, with the shadow on two sides the frame is very 3D. great look.

ps...on your profile page your "if only" is wonderful. wish tl could post that on the homepage.

Very well done.

Hi David,

That lack of wind is indeed very important - no only if you try to sail, but this weekend we had so much wind that it would have been pointless on many occassions to use a tripod.
For me to get this effect on water it takes much more then 1/250 sec. to smooth the surface out ^-^.
Lovely atmosphere and of course a fitting dedication for Pierre.

hi David

Such a calm on the water and making this capture so peaceful. I like your pov in this great composition of allowing more water space in FG even in dim light condition.

Hello David,

I am always amazed at the interest and variety that can be produced from seaside fog!
This shot has the feeling of two which have been ingeniously combined. The top third, which is full of large images merging into the subtle mist, is perfectly balanced by the lower two-thirds which are smooth, calm and resemble a painting undertaken on wet paper.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

This is a lovely picture David
Love all the colour
and the cool summer/winter breeze

I am sure Pierre appreciated this, even if it was late. He really is a very nice and funny guy (met him just a few days before his bday). Seems to enjoy comedy: his bday outing was the 'Just for Laughs Festival' in Montreal (not far from where we were staying at that time)....
Cheers
Otto

Another very beautiful one David !
Well done.
Best regards, Daniel
