The Maheno Shipwreck on Fraser Island, as it appeared in 1983. It has since rusted away a lot, with little of the superstructure remaining. The ship was driven ashore during a storm in the 1930's. It was used for target practice, during World War II.

Here's what it looked like in April, 2005:

hi chris
i like the contrast between the rusty wreck and the beautiful sky and sea, and the land rover and people gives us a clear idea of the size of the ship.
sean

Good colours and composition once again. Nice contrast as Sean has said. The people give a sense of scale. I like the angle too. Very good work!

Hi Chris,
this is very interesting.
Have you scanned it from an slice or a paper-photo? Excellent quality, well done, thanks

His Chris,
Interesting picture...
A sad end for the ship, but that's life.
Best regards,
José

Beautiful sky, interesting subject. I feel there is some dead space on the bottom of this photograph that could have been cropped a little (IMHO).

Very nice shot to watch, Chris. I like the pov and the colours. Well done.

Makes one wonder why garbage like this doesn't get cleaned up... Thanks for documenting this, Chris.
Nice quality it is, for a 22 year old picture. Great work on digitalising it. TFS.

Cool shot, I like how you caught a wave crashing into the side it looks like. Very neat subject matter, great framing and colors.

Remarkable image - I've wanted to comment this one for a while but hadn't gotten around to getting myself a TL membership until now.

The isolation made possible by this wreck's location adds greatly to the picture. There's a simplicity in the composition with the wreck centrally placed, while leading diagonally into the picture to provide a line for the eye to follow. The people and vehicle provide scale without dominating or detracting from the subject.

Given the quality of the light and the nature of the subject material, this can't have been an easy one to get the exposure right either.

Maybe this photo is "ancient history" but it's still a good one.

It's certainly changed now Chris! Nice POV, and I particularly like the softness of the blues in the sky and in the water in the foreground.

Well it's much more bigger then my battleship game on my Palm! Mine is practical but your's is impressive :)
Very nice texture... I would surely walk all around to see interesting details....
You mostly present general view... This is not a reproach of course.... But i presume you would see so much littles details on an opportunity like that! Don't you?
Impressive rust!
