While travelling on the old Albany Highway to work this morning I watched a balloon that had just been launched from the North Shore Airfield, which is between Albany and Silverdale. It was travelling south towards Albany and was gaining height quite rapidly.
You can clearly see the flames from the gas burners and just make out the people in the basket. The balloon was some distance away and the crop makes it look closer than it really was. I often see these ballons on my way to work and have always tried to photograph them without much success but this morning was really crisp and clear and I was able to position myself to get an unobstructed view but composed it with the flax to the right. Didn't have time to screw on the CPL.
Hope you like it. |

Hi Ralph !
Interesting and beautiful image presented.
Has some beautiful colors and well defined.
Have a nice day,
Adrian
Hi Ralph,
Well composed shot! So clear with nice lighting. Looks like the hot air balloon on the Freeview HD Demo channel (channel 100 on freeview), might actually be the same one. Great focus, the flame looks very cool. Well spotted.
TFS,
Regards,
Scott.
Oh and what a beautiful morning it was! Absolutely calm up there at 3000ft, would've been ideal for these guys! I like the flax in the composition, and the pale colours work wonderfully.
TFS!
Cadi

We were up in one of these balloons a few years ago. What fun it was. But it was pre-digital days!!
What amazed me was that there was no sound of the wind up there at all. All you heard was the gas burners and the odd cow mooing on the ground.
I like your composition Ralph, with the flax on the side and the balloon taking up all the rest of the scene.
Well done
Janice
