| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a unique piece of art that I spotted at the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manurewa.
I’m not completely sure what it resembles, but I’m guessing that it was designed with a sea theme in mind, which would also explain the small boat perched in the sand next to it. I was thinking maybe it's meant to be the ropes like at the port in Auckland City.
I tried to call the Visitor Centre but they had just left to go home for the day when I called. If I find out, I’ll be sure to edit this note. It can be found near the Perennial Garden, where a lot of weddings take place.
EDIT: (9th April) I have just got off the phone to the Visitor Centre and apparently it was a prize winning exhibition at the Ellerslie Flower Show that got gifted to the gardens. The poles are from the Manukau Harbour and the boat was also donated.
The Auckland Botanical Gardens were opened in 1982 and it stretches across 64 hectares, which offer over 10,000 plants for you to explore.
You will see award winning roses, the spring blossom valley, the rock garden and the New Zealand native plant collection, including threatened native plants as well as many other sections. The Potter Children’s Garden is well worth checking out too.
They are currently renovating the large duck/goose pond but that should be back up and running in no time. There is also a relaxing bushwalk that you can take, or if it’s hot enough, head down to Totara Park and take a dip in the swimming pool free of charge.
It’s a very nice place to go, and the best part is that it’s free of charge to enter and roam around for as long as you like. There are various other pieces of art around the gardens and all of the plants are name-tagged with their species. Makes for a great day out, and a decent amount of exercise too.

Hi Scott,
Great artwork here. Simplistic but beautiful.
Would be really interesting to find out what it represents. I also tried looking at their website and wikipedia but found nothing, only about other artwork that is there, but not this one.
By doing so, I looked at their gallery and their interactive map and I feel like I took a walk through the gardens :-) Its absolutely stunning.

Hi Scott,
When I looked at the thumbnail I had no idea what this was but it was intriguing as you say a unique piece of art that definitely has a seafareing theme to it. The pov is great and the colours are very good well done.

Hi Scott,
This is an interesting work of art. I like the combination of sea and land that it represents. Your POV is great and the way you've captured the lush greenery is wonderful. It's nice to find the treasures in life that are free too.
Regards,
Werner

dear Scott,
a very interesting and strange artistic object.
it looks giant people standing hand in hand, and making one screen, to warn us something...and maybe the boat is any symbol.
anyway, nice view in the garden you took.
thank you,
Akihisa
Great spotting...I have never been to Auckland, but if I was to get there I think I would look into going to the Botanic Gardens...just so I can compare it to the Christchurch one LOL!!!
Any how, back to the photo...I love the placement of the wooden stuctures and the boat. Maybe a little filtering on the sky just to deepen the blue would add to the whole image. Just my IMO though :)
Regards
Tracey
