[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tried this shot of Auckland early last Saturday morning, the clouds were quite dark and the forecast was for stormy weather. The sun was just begining to rise as I took this, I have not tried many night/morning shots so any advice would be appreciated.

Colours/saturation tweaked in Capture NX2.
Levelled horizon, resized, sharpened and added border in Paint Shop Pro X2.

Stunning capture of my Home City, excellent detail, lighting and colours, well photographed

Nice view Derek... Personally I take the aperture as small as possible to get a longer shutter speed (assuming you have a sturdy tripod) to get the water smoother, then you'll get a clearer and more colourful reflection of the lights..

Cheers
David

Kia ora Derek,
This is a great nocturnal impression of Auckland. I like the colour reflections of the light on the water. Hope you enjoy your stay with the Kiwi's, I did for sure.

Hi Derek,
great lighting and very well captured, the dark sky makes a great BG
cheers
Jack

This is an awesome exposure Derek, considering the possible wind that always is a problem near water. Lots of details, superb sharpness and I love the dark moody clouds!

HI Derek
Wow what a view, the dark clouds hovering over the city and the ship all lit up adds to make this a great shot.

So this was early morning - looks like it was late at night.
Good capture Derek. Well composed - the sky tower is off centre, the buildings show up clearly, and the liner looks with its lights on - it stands out well - and all look great emphasising the dark sky.
Well done
Janice

Great shot! Good to see that you got the Aurora cruise ship in the picture too. Fortunately it's having mechanical problems or else it would have been long gone by now. Love the colours and POV. TFS!

Hi Derek,

Brilliant composition. Sharp and good exposure time. Superb POV and result. Tfs.

Hi Derek,
This is a wonderful night shot.
Great view on the skyline of this town.
Well done!

TFS and greetings from Netherlands,
Adri

Hello Derek, I don't think that you need any advice, this is excellent work.
A great view with the buildings all in the middle third.
The lights shine out across the water ensuring that our eyes are constantly drawn back to the centre of the shot. The dark clouds are a good backdrop.
Tfs, regards Jean.

i must admitthis is one of the best shots i have seen on tl for a while Derek the blend between the sky and the water is amazing and the lights from the buildings realy add to the shot well done grt work
regards bryan

Wondered where you had got to :-) A real cracker this one.

Perfect exposure really reveals the intensity of the image.

Hi Derek
Now, I would like this in my portfolio, I had a shot of this at dusk, however I can see the detail is so much better in the D700 than my D80. The skyline is beautiful but that glass in your lens has made this such a crisp shot. Look at that boat, wonderful which I hear was 4 days docked in Auckland due to mechanical problems... ouch.
Regards
Jim
