Freeze for Global Warming

At 1pm on 5 June 2009
, people across New Zealand froze. They came together in public places and became human statues – stopping and standing for united action on climate change. Over a thousand people took part.

The Freeze was held to highlight the need for New Zealanders to come together in 2009 to take action on climate change. It’s a critical year for action, as a new global climate change treaty is being negotiated in Copenhagen in December. Global warming is totally within our grasp to freeze and reverse – we simply need to show our courage to act.

I had no idea why these people were turning into statues, but Pam / Coasties and I were in Vulcan Lane in Auckland City that day, and over 100 people stopped and stood still like statues for 7 whole minutes and we were lucky to be able to photograph them.

This man caught my eye, along with another 50 odd people that I also captured. It was great to be able to wandered around and take photos of people like this - and NO-ONE minded at all :) :)

Hi Janice,
Strange scene by the sound of your note, lucky you had your camera handy! A great portrait shot, nice idea with the vertical crop. The details look very clear and the colours nice and bright. Personally I find the object to the bottom right of the frame a little distracting, good DOF from f/4 however.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Kiwi
Totally match with its title., this is a nice street portrait with great focus and details, vivid colors, good pose
We all have to do freezing our activity against environment, stop global warming!
Best wishes, Alireza

Hello Janice,

An interesting note!
I'm with you!

I like this very much!
The details are excellent and the expression on the man's face suggests a deep thought.
Good dof and very well cropped.

Kind regards,
bev :-)

Hi Janice,
It's nice to see you posting! This is a classic, great portrait. Nice details/colors with perfect lighting. Well done and a good story to go with it. Too bad all our subjects won't freeze when we want them to (lol). TFS Julie

Hi Janice,
Beautiful human statue!
A poet singer wrote in the seventies : " On gèle au Sud, on sue au Nord (litteral translation : We are freezing at South, we are sweating in North)!

The 3/4 profil gives a good tri-dimentional volume.
I like the rendering of warm skin and the textures on the hair. I would just clone the diagonal line in the right bottom side.
Bravo! Annie

A good message with this post and a very nice portrait. I like the lighting and the colors and detail are excellent. Interesting expression and pose. TFS

Janice
Un portrait inspiré de très belle qualité (juste un petit regret pour la zone claire floue en bas à droite). Une bonne mise au point et un bon choix de réglage pour obtenir la profondeur de champ qui convient. Belles couleurs et jolie pose
Amicalement
JJ

Hi Janice,
This is an excellent portrait shot. I like that expression on his face.

Have a great day my friend!

Regards,

George

Hi Janice,
An interesting portrait, fine pose well captured. Only a shame about the disturbing bright triangle in the right lower corner. Anyway the sharpness on the head is perfect even like the DOF. His red shirt is striking without being distractive.
Fine posting Janice!
Hans
