Freeze for Global Warming

This is another photo that I took on this day:

I had no idea at first why these people were turning into statues, but Pam / Coasties and I were in Vulcan Lane in Auckland City that day, and over 100 people stopped and stood still like statues for 7 whole minutes and we were lucky to be able to photograph them.

At 1pm on 5 June 2009, people across New Zealand froze. They came together in public places and became human statues – stopping and standing for united action on climate change. Over a thousand people took part.

The Freeze was held to highlight the need for New Zealanders to come together in 2009 to take action on climate change. It’s a critical year for action, as a new global climate change treaty is being negotiated in Copenhagen in December. Global warming is totally within our grasp to freeze and reverse – we simply need to show our courage to act.

This lady caught my eye, along with another 50 odd people that I also captured. It was great to be able to wandered around and take photos of people like this - and NO-ONE minded at all :) :)

Hi Janice,
That is a great chance for you and us: dozens of live statues shoted by Janice.
This one is very good, the dame in first plan is fantastic.
Best regards
Raimundo

Great shot, especially the perspective and lighting. 7 minutes of people standing still? A dream come true for portrait shots!

This is a nice shot Jannie! But what catches my eye is the bokeh behind her, real life, interesting people going about their lives. I love "man on the street" photography! Your clarity is super here!

Another really great capture! Excellent dof and natural colors. Good detail. I like her slight smile. TFS

Hello Janice,

Another fine shot from your 'freeze' theme.
The whole composition draws together very well.
Just co-incidence, possibly, but look how well the b/g colours match your focal person!

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Janice,

Great portrait and special too! Love it you have a good eye for photography, well observed and captured. The DOF is wonderful, almost bokeh anyway a superb street shot of Auckland.
