[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A camera, Kristy, and her sister Kim holding a reflector, down at the local cemetery.

This first shot needed some PP work - selected the (overexposed) sky, added blue tone. Some crop.

Still getting to grips with the Canon, especially its slow kit lenses.

Hi Rew
Great pose, nice composition and good location. Others might think different... But your PP work on the sky looks a little bit strange to me.
Cheers
David

Nice job with this one, Rew. Very attractive model in a curious pose.

Hello rew

original place for such a portrait :)

nice composition and an effective PP for the sky

Hi Rew,

I have tried this kind of arrangement in Jakarta, and I have difficulties of separating the point of interest . . I was at Dutch cemetery, and so lovely crafted granite . .
Lucky to have two very beautiful models . .
Other problem was lighting which was not clear, due to shadows of trees . .
You have better lighting . . and you did well composing it . .
Well done my friend . .

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Good morning Rew,
very interesting combination of beauty and sadness place..
Excellent idea and relization...vamp woman ;),
good work!!!

Hi Rew, another shot that stirs the imagination, whoch is a good thing. I'll start with the things I like...

I like the idea, the pose, the location, the way Kristy isn't looking directly at us...

I'm afraid a few things I don't like, sorry!

I don't like the branch/twig at the bottom of her dress, the lighting (hotshoe flash for fill-in needed?), the top of the gravestone almost blending with the line of the tree, the sky looks odd and I'm not sure if there's a slight tilt? Really can't work out the tilt, it may be fine looking at some verticals.

Suggestions? Maybe a different crop, not sure you need the whole gravestone...perhaps crop in from the left, even to midway on the stone. Also, maybe a choice of b/w?

I'll try a workshop if that's ok. Evenif it isn't, actually :-)

To sum up, I think the idea is excellent and I'd love to see more from this location...but a few niggles, so can't mark as "great"...sorry!

Hi Rew.

Rew

Not so keen on this one unfortunately, the sky looks a little un-natural, and Kristy's dress seems overexposed. Also there appears a blue cast to it.

I also find the composition kind-of jarring, she's too centrally placed, and looks kinda awkward leaning against the monument.

Finally, the contrast seems a little flat.

Sorry to be brutally honest, but I think you can handle it!!

I've tried cemetery photography before and rejected all the shots afterwards, evidently it's a lot harder than it looks to get something good!

Finally, with regard to the lenses... May I humbly suggest you consider this as an alternative to the kit lens. They're around $(NZ)750 retail. I've got one and it's a massive improvement over the kit lens, much better than the Canon 17-85, comparable with the new Canon 18-50 and a grand less expensive.

Rew
i like the idea but i think Kristy needs more light on her face

Hi Rew...
verynice comp...and shot..superb color and focus...bravo..selamlar

Hi Rew
Very beautiful pose and great shot.Beautiful composition and details.well done.TFS
Greetings

I kinda like this one, could be a scene from a horror movie
I agree with some other comments a tight crop would remove some distractions and bit more light needed on the face.
if you are going to replace the sky I find it more realistic to use sky from another pic

Hello Rew,

Beautiful model and a good photograph.
I did a WS and I hope you like it!

Hi Rew,

* Sells the comments above, I see that the opinions diverge in a lot of things.
I didn't understand anything.

I like the picture, more taste of her like this, WS that Sérgio did, it was legal, but here you explore more the space, I like that.
And to speak of the picture, it is only to eulogize, therefore this is his mark registered here.
Congratulations my friend....

Sérgio

Hello Rew,
My mind is still digesting the comments and WS. Thank heaven for this kind of forum. IMHO considering the lighting challenge, this is a superb photo. Kristi looks like a pro and appears relaxed. I would be curious to see photos from this location on an even cloudy day. My best regards! Danilo

Hi Rew. I like this even though cemetaries are a bit creepy at time. The lady's face near the name engraved "Bessie", seem to go well together. Excellent creativity. TFS. Murray.

I admire your energy, your pursuit of perfection, the practice and exercises you do for phototgraphy! On this photo, I find a need for a little light on the face of your model instead of on the side of the white dress. I would also put the hem of her dress over the twigs on the ground. I like your altered Image #1 as it gives more definition of the model's face.

Hi Rew
Very good idea of creating that contranst between death and life. The composition is splendid and well balanced. The details are sharp despite the fact that you used the 18-55mm.
Nicely done
Serge

Hi Rew

Nice shots on this cemetary....but i find little scary if you took it late nite..

Amri HMS

he rew...

if we looking at this photo, the lighting in her dress and her face its not balance,
strong lighting in her dress but a bit under in her face,
maybe you not using something like reflector for bounce back the lighting to her face ?

I like the way you direct the model to not looking at camera, its make her more sexy and have more strong character.

highlight in her hand really nice, very well done.
tfs

Original I can tell you that ! ;-)
Like the composition and that fear expression.
Two remarks :
Her beautiful dress is OE and I find that a real pitty !
I find the BG too sharp : my attention should be stopped at the model.
Hope I'm making sense ... :-)

See you !
Jan
