Scientific Name: Cleistocactus winteri

Synonym: Hildewintera aureispina, Loxanthocereus aureispinus, Winterocereus aureispinus, Borzicactus aureispinus, Winteria aureispina, Cleistocactus aureispinus

Family: Cactaceae

Origin: Argentina to Uruguay

What a mouthfull of names!! It is also called Golden Rat Tail and Monkey Tail Cactus and I think I prefer any of those two!!

Growth Habits:
Columnar cactus forming masses of columns, up to 3 feet tall (90 cm),
stems 2.5 inches in diameter (6 cm);
16 to 17 ribs; spines 50, 0.16 to 0.4 inch long (0.4 to 1 cm)

It has golden yellow spines on slender stems that flower from December to April in NZ.

I decided ot practice on my cacti flowers using my new Sigma lens. The sun was getting low in the sky and there was a breeze blowing too.

Yes, I used my tripod - it was gathering dust!!

Many thanks for your comment on ‘In the Forest’...I have since added a coloured version in the workshop.

I too would rather see the zoom on the ferns but I struggle with some of the light in the forests.
