Fruit

I was at a friend’s house this week and she asked if I would like a jar of this jam. And I said yes, and I can tell you it is delicious. Especially with slices on cheese on crackers.

When I saw it I thought about Helen’s theme and decided to do a bit of shooting and tasting at the same time. . .

FEIJOA and Ginger Jam

Ingredients
1 kg feijoas
½ - 1 cup crystallised ginger, sliced finely
Juice and zest of 1 lemon (optional)
Sugar / same weight as the feijoas
A few drops of green food colouring (that’s what gives it the lovely green colour.)

Method
Peel fruit first
Boil all together for 15 minutes – add the green colour at end.
Stand the mixture for 15 minutes before bottling
Pour jam into warmed, sterilized jars, cool and seal.

Feijoas are large egg shaped fruit (about the size of an egg) with a shiny green skin (similar colour to a green avocado) with a taste and aroma of strawberry, lemon and passionfruit. The tiny edible seeds are embedded in a jellylike centre.

Looking up on Google about Feijoas I learnt that some countries call them Pineapple Guavas.

Some people love them – others can’t stand them at all.

I love ’em. . .

The jam is really YUMMY!!!

. . .

Hi Janice,
This looks so tastey, I like the idea of cheese with the jam.
We were given a jar of Feijoa jam the other day, but it is a dark red.
I like the look of yours better, must try the recipe. TFS.
Pete.

Hi Janice,

very well seen and excellent POV.
Well done. TFS.

Hello Janice,

I'm really glad you explained what feijoas are. It sounds like a delicious fruit, one worth looking out for.

The jam looks like mint jelly but from your description won't taste anything like that!

Mmm, it is tea time! I'm feeling quite hungry looking at all thesedelicious fruits! We're having strawberries for tea!

Very good shot and I love the arched, almost rainbow-like composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

I have not seen this fruit here at all Janice and I have never seen green jam :). Good focus and detail especially on the glass dish. Natural colours and well framed. TFS,
David

Hello Janice

Well the capture is superb! nicely laid out with good sharp detail and texture. In addition the notes are excellent and this really sounds like something I must try as I am rather partial to cheese and biscuits.

TFS and for joining in the theme

regards Helen

This looks great Janice
Not a big fan of that cheese and not sure with crakers.

But well done Janice.
Love the photo

Although I've never tasted the jam, the picture sure is making me hungry!! :) Very well done with nice detail. A very 'tasteful' picture. TFS and have a great day!

Greetings, Janice -
This is a wonderful food image: great POV, fine sharpness, warm colors and composed well with the bowl of jam in the lower right. I had never heard of feijoas until now, and I have seen two shown in photos submitted for the "Fruit" theme, both posted by New Zealanders. Is the feijoa native to New Zealand? Very nice image.

Hi Janice, This does look very tempting and so unusual to see a green jam. Feijoas are one of my favourites and I will have to try out your recipee. A very good image Janice and I like the close crop. Many thanks, Cheers, Pat.

Hi Janice,

I can taste it . . Very useful recipe . .
Excellent food photography . . it looks very real and natural . .
Well done my dear friend

Tfs,
